We had the pleasure of interviewing Kedsley, a self-taught synth musician fusing passion for art & tech. Former roadie turned music producer during the pandemic, now mesmerizing audiences with emotive live performances. A true creative force in the electronic music scene.Â
Here are the excerpts from the interview.Â
Hi Kedsley, Great to have you with us today! Please share with our readers about yourself.
What’s up? I’m a music producer and lighting technician with a focus on live performance. I produce electronic and synth-wave music. In between touring the world with entertainers and musicians, I am in my studio at home, or wherever home may be for the moment, creating art and music.Â
Please tell us more about your journey.
I’ve always had an unfathomable passion for music. With that, I sought to find my place within the touring community and solidify a career in live performances. Starting as a promoter and hired hand for local shows and music festivals, I quickly climbed through the ranks of various industry disciplines such as backline, video, and audio to discover my love for live lighting and visual art. I had been touring as a roadie for seven years once the pandemic started, and I, like many others, became unsure of what this meant for our careers. Roadies are problem solvers, so I decided to start making my own music. What started as a way to avoid demonetization from my Twitch live streams morphed into an exciting new method for self-expression. I put everything I’ve learned about production into my performances, and my dreams are only getting bigger.Â
Please share with our readers about your EP, Error.Â
Error was a 3 track EP I released in 2021. I believe this is where I started to concentrate my efforts on my own music. Nothing seemed to be going right in the world at that time for anybody, and the mass displacement of service industry professionals weighed heavy on my mind. I found peace for myself by creating the music of Error while escaping into the virtual worlds of video games like Minecraft, Cyberpunk 2077, Satisfactory, and Escape From Tarkov. Having these feelings of displacement and abandonment led me to face what I believed to be the true error. I wasn’t supposed to be home. I should be working right now.
What are the strategies that helped you become successful in your journey?Â
My dad is also involved in production and works as a staging technician. He once gave me the advice that every day is a job interview. I firmly believe that. When on a job site in the entertainment business, you never know who you’re talking to or who is listening. The person who helped you unload a truck yesterday could be your production manager tomorrow.Â
Any message for our readers?Â
I’ve learned so much through this adventure about myself and the world I live in. With every step, I have found more friends to walk with. Through sharing my visions and music with others, I have discovered more creative collaborators and individuals who share similar passions and ideas. Once the world opened back up and I found myself touring again, it’s taking longer to release the music, although I have not stopped. I’m currently on a world tour with a great group of technicians and professionals, as well as meeting some of the nicest and coolest humans along the road. During our off times, we are making music and art together in our buses and hotel rooms, and I couldn’t be more proud of the progress being made in my own skills and ambitions in both my professional career and in my music.Â
Fantastic! So tell us, how can people find out more about you?Â
As of this moment, all of my music is released on Spotify, YouTube, Apple Music, and Amazon. You can also find other tracks and playlists on BandCamp and SoundCloud. Follow me on Instagram @Kedsley or add me on FaceBook. I am also excited to announce that I am working on a music video with The Photon Samurai.Â
I’ll post about upcoming releases and announcements on my social media, so follow me if you’d like to be part of the adventure.
Thank you so much, Kedsley, for giving us your precious time! We wish you all the best for your journey ahead!
