Today we have the pleasure of interviewing Jarrett Sanders, formerly known as Don Darnell. He is a music artist and known as the entrepreneur extraordinaire of his generation.
Hi Jarrett, Great to have you with us today! Please share with our readers about yourself.
Hi, I am from a small town named Bolton, Mississippi, where the population is about 550 people and decreasing. I am currently a student at the Jackson State University of Jackson, MS, the same Jackson State University where Deion Sanders brought passion back to our football fans. I am majoring in Biomedical Engineering to find a way to cure physical disfigurement and dysfunction. I am doing a minor in Business Administration to better learn how to compensate my help for their hard work and time. I come from poverty, the most penurious family in my neighborhood. I have one child, and her name is Ja’Laya Makayla Sanders. My pride and joy.
Please tell us about your music.
Music was the beginning for me, when my father was incarcerated. At that time, I was 2 1/2 years old. My music is for those who want to get to know me as a person and an artist. I am very versatile when it comes to expressing myself through music. The dynamics of my music and my emotions are forever a clash of the titans.
Please share with our readers more about your journey.
My journey was rough, full of tricks and mistakes, from falling victim to ignorance. I have overcome the need to prove myself to anyone. The goal is to impress myself with how far I can get with my righteous ideas and endeavors. I have been into music and media for 14 years now and have been slowly climbing my spot in the industry. The manifestation came from the devotion to the work, which was governed by the Boys & Girls Club of Hammond, IN. My instructor of studies was Julio A. Guerra, who taught me recording, mesh-ups, videography, photography, video editing, and broadcasting. I essentially took all these production tools and applied them to a career of passion, my music! No one in my family has professional music experience. I am the closest to the industry as far as my family goes. I have six albums, 1 EP, and about 30 features as of now. I invested over 10,000 hours into this music and into studying my demographic.
Please tell us about your next album, “The Reawaken.”
The next album is to be dropped this year in 2023!! A surprise album is on the way after. “The Reawaken” is an album of unlearning and relearning. Things you thought were normal true fully, are the opposite of the right things to do. This is one of the albums that sets me aside from other artists from poverty. I don’t glorify the wrong I have ignorantly committed myself to in the past. Now I’m giving a million dollars worth of game on every track.
What are the strategies that helped you become successful in your journey?
Staying consistent is the only thing to hold you in the game. Do better with every opportunity that comes your way. Quality over quantity.

To those who support the culture of righteous endeavors, keep chasing your dreams. Write out all your goals and all relevant entities to fulfilling your dreams and aspirations. Aim to be no one else but you.
