Hollywood music producer shares his incredible journey: An exclusive interview with Rex Roland

We had the pleasure of interviewing Rex Roland, a popular music producer from Hollywood, California, and a veteran in the art of composing unique and timeless beats.

Here are the excerpts from the interview.

Hi Rex, Great to have you with us today! Please share with our readers about yourself.

Greetings from the OG P Rex, a.k.a. Rex Roland: I’ve been in the Los Angeles music scene since the early 1980s, so I was one the first producers, artists, and street dancers from LA that actually paved the way for generations to get noticed around the world. I’ve worked with artists such as Ice T ( I sang the hook on his first hit single, “I’m your pusherman“). I was a dancer on soul train for three years. I started at the breakdance scene on Venice Beach in the 80s (there’s an article in People’s magazine in 1985 where I was featured about the “stars of the streets” breakdance movement). I produced and performed in the “Analog Brothers” Rap group with Kool Keith in early 2000. Im originally from Compton, California, but I grew up most of my life in Hollywood, California, where I was a staple of the town.

Please tell us more about your journey.

My journey among the stars was very universal, to say the least. I produced a plethora of music projects, performed at iconic clubs, wrote scripts, and rubbed elbows with a myriad of legendary superstars. I was prince stand in the movie ‘Purple Rain.’ I was preparing to do a reality show and a tour with Rick James before he passed away. I was hanging out with Ike Turner in the studio during his last days on the planet, to name a few. My music has the most unique compositions that will ever be. My motto is, “I can’t follow trends because the future of mankind depends on originality!” But at the end of any real musicians’ day, music is all about expression and the love for the art form; the money will be an extra bonus!

I have amassed a playlist of original music over the years that has added up to 4.5 days in my iTunes personal playlist. I have been very selfish with my music my whole life thus far, so I decided to start sharing on streaming sites because I felt it was my time, a time where independent artists can control every aspect of their future in the music business. I’ve already released three albums. I have seven more that I’m willing to share. I will keep all the rest for myself as my personal radio station because I truly believe I am my own biggest fan by far! No matter if it is commercial music or underground, people need to know the lesson is in the music, the experience is in the lyrics, and the art is everlasting. However, P Rex’s music is the rarest of jewels!

Any message for our readers?

I am presently trying to help other artists create a unique path in creating timeless music. I’ve recently built a website that will assist new artists, star seeds, and professionals that need content to add to their library catalog of music that will carry them on deep into the future and everlasting inspiration.

Fantastic! So tell us, how can people find out more about you?
