A Kid Named Gill: Kgills’ Most Personal Album Yet
When you dive into the tracks of “A Kid Named Gill,” released on July 7, 2025, you’re stepping into Kgills’ world—one that’s raw, relatable, and deeply personal. For Kgills, real name Kyle Gill, this album isn’t just music; it’s therapy. Having spent 15 years crafting his distinct sound, he now presents his most heartfelt work, connecting with listeners who’ve endured similar hardships.
Finding His Voice Through Struggle
Kgills’ journey began in Lynn, Massachusetts, a city that shaped his experiences and outlook on life. Growing up in tough conditions, with his father absent since he was two and his mother battling addiction, music quickly became his sanctuary. At 13, armed only with a battered iPhone 3GS, a notebook filled with rhymes, and boundless ambition, Kgills found his voice. It was through music that he could articulate feelings otherwise impossible to express.
As life unfolded, Kgills’ lyrics evolved, shaped by trials, triumphs, and everything in between. By 2017, his passion began to flourish beyond personal therapy. Opening for well-known artists, his music gained broader exposure, setting the stage for deeper, more mature albums. “A Kid Named Gill” marks his eighth studio album in as many years, standing apart as his most poignant and compelling creation.
An Album of Depth and Diversity
The album, carefully woven together with contributions from talented producers like DexterYu, Arcane, and Simsbeats, showcases a breadth of emotion and sonic depth. Tracks like “The Parade” and “Ocean Floor” immediately pull listeners into introspective spaces, capturing raw vulnerability. On “Big Man” and “Saints,” produced by DexterYu, the rhythms pick up, blending honest lyrics with beats that stay with you long after the music stops.
However, it’s songs like “Dear Steve” and “I’m Fine” where Kgills’ storytelling truly shines. Through thoughtful lyricism, listeners feel his narrative unfolding, each track peeling back another layer of his life’s journey. “Can’t Move On,” produced by XVN, strikes a universal chord—who hasn’t grappled with the challenge of moving forward from painful past experiences? Kgills’ relatability is his strength, connecting directly to anyone who’s known hardship.
Closing the album, “Angels” and “Live Forever” feel deeply reflective, offering listeners a sense of closure and hope. Produced again by DexterYu, these tracks resonate with anyone who’s faced struggles yet kept moving forward, carrying powerful messages of resilience and perseverance.
Inspired by Experience, Fueled by Passion
Kgills draws inspiration from artists like Mac Miller, Oncue, and Ryan Caraveo, yet maintains a style uniquely his own—rooted firmly in real-life experiences. His music doesn’t shy away from difficult truths; it embraces them. Each song on “A Kid Named Gill” is meticulously crafted, every lyric purposeful, every beat chosen with care.
What started as an escape from reality has blossomed into a powerful platform for Kgills. “A Kid Named Gill” is not merely an album—it’s a testament to his journey, struggles, and the healing power of music. Listeners navigating their own hardships will find comfort and understanding here, proving that sometimes the deepest connections come through shared stories and genuine expression.
With “A Kid Named Gill,” Kgills invites you into his world, offering a reassuring hand to anyone needing to know they’re not alone in their journey.
We had the privilege of interviewing the Music Artist. Here are excerpts from the interview:
Thank you so much for joining us today! Please introduce yourself and tell us what you do.
My name is Kyle Gill, aka “Kgills.” I am a rap artist originally out of Lynn, Massachusetts. I grew up there, and now I’m out of Mansfield. I’ve been making music for 15 years, and it’s my therapy even to this day.
Please tell us about your story/journey.
It all started with a beat-up iPhone 3GS, a notepad, and a dream. I first started making music when I was 13. It was a way to escape my problems. I grew up with a really rough childhood. My father left when I was 2, and my mother was unfortunately a drug addict, and that impacted me immensely. I used music as a way to explain the pain; it was my therapy and the only way I knew how to express myself. As I grew older the music changed based on life experiences and It really picked up around 2017 I was fortunate enough to open for a few different artists at different venues and in the last 8 years I’ve dropped seven albums and the latest being “A Kid Named Gill” which is far and away my best work.
What are the strategies that helped you become successful in your journey?
My strategy was simply to be myself. I never tried to be anything I wasn’t, and I stayed true to who I am. I’ve been fortunate to connect with many great people over the years.
Any message for our readers
My message to people out there would be to chase your dreams, no matter what they are. I had many doubters early on in my journey, and I also struggled with a lot of self-doubt. However, I pushed through all of that, and now I’m super happy about where I’m in my career. So, stay true to yourself and chase your dreams because your dreams won’t wait for you.
