Why S. Lee’s Treasure the Goat Is the Children’s Book You’ve Been Waiting For

Life can take a funny turn when a new pet wanders into the picture—and in Treasure the Goat, readers are treated to one wild adventure after another. Written and illustrated by S. Lee and published by CheeFreedomPress, this children’s book follows Jeanne, an imaginative young girl who suddenly finds herself responsible for a mischievous goat. What starts as an exciting surprise quickly becomes a flurry of hilarious mishaps, turning every day into a fresh round of trouble.

An Unexpected New Friend

When Jeanne’s dad brings home Treasure, a goat with tiny horns and a fluffy tail, everyone assumes this new pet will be all cuddles and fun. The goat certainly seems harmless at first—until the chaos begins. One morning, Jeanne notices her homework is missing, only to discover a few chewed-up papers nearby. There’s also the time when a plate of delicious cupcakes mysteriously vanishes, leading to a furious hunt for the culprit. Jeanne points the finger at Treasure, but her mom shakes her head, finding it hard to believe that one sweet-looking goat could be the source of all this havoc.

Day by day, Treasure proves that appearances can be deceiving. Whether it’s toppling over laundry baskets or sneaking a taste of dinner before anyone else can, this goat takes every chance to create mischief. With each new escapade, Jeanne grows more insistent that Treasure really is the one causing all the trouble, only to face a chorus of skepticism from her exasperated mom.

A Twist in the Tale

Just when Jeanne feels most misunderstood, an unexpected twist emerges: more goats appear, seemingly identical to Treasure in looks and behavior. This sudden arrival of Treasure’s siblings takes everyone by surprise. Now Jeanne’s mom must face the possibility that the mayhem isn’t just the product of one little goat’s mischief. Perhaps Jeanne’s stories weren’t so far-fetched after all.

This comical turn of events brings about an important message: sometimes, we must keep an open mind before jumping to conclusions. In the rush to blame Jeanne or doubt her version of events, her mom nearly missed the chance to see the whole picture. The story gently reminds young readers that patience, understanding, and careful listening can solve more problems than snap judgments.

Laughter with a Lesson

Treasure the Goat succeeds in blending lighthearted humor with genuine life lessons. At its core, the book explores themes of trust, communication, and the danger of assumptions. Jeanne’s patience is tested by her mom’s disbelief, but she stays determined to speak her truth. Meanwhile, her mom discovers that being open to different perspectives can make family life run much smoother.

This playful approach to serious topics makes the story engaging for children and adults alike. Kids will revel in the goat’s silly pranks, while parents and teachers can appreciate the underlying lessons about honesty and understanding. It’s a combination that makes Treasure the Goat an ideal pick for group story time, quiet reading before bed, or any moment that calls for a bit of fun sprinkled with wisdom.

The Creative Mind Behind the Book

S. Lee, both author and illustrator, draws her inspiration from life’s everyday moments. Raised in San Diego, she’s a mother of three and a proud grandmother, with a deep love for art and music. Her previous work, Olivia Surfs the Stars, also captures a sense of imaginative wonder. But Treasure the Goat holds a special place in her heart, born from real-life inspiration—her niece Jeanne and a family dog named Treasure, whose mischievous antics often rival those of any goat.

For S. Lee, writing and illustrating children’s stories is a natural extension of her passion for creative self-expression. She believes in preserving that spark of childhood curiosity and joy, even into adulthood. Through her books, she encourages children and parents to embrace life’s little surprises and allow imagination to shine in day-to-day experiences.
