Breaking the Silence: Danielle Robinson’s Bold New Book “UNMUTED“
In a tech landscape that champions disruption, voices that disrupt the status quo often remain unheard. Danielle Robinson’s powerful debut, “UNMUTED: A Black Woman’s Voice in Tech,” shatters that silence. With candid storytelling and bold insights, this book blends fiction and lived experience, making it clear—this is more than a book. It’s a movement.
Facing the Reality of Tech
Danielle’s narrative dives right into the heart of issues often overlooked—microaggressions, emotional burnout, and the draining experience of constant code-switching. Tech wasn’t designed with Black women in mind, and Danielle explores the painful truth of that oversight. Her stories hit home, spotlighting moments when qualified women are overlooked, underestimated, or ignored altogether.
Anyone navigating professional environments will recognize these scenarios. Danielle doesn’t sugarcoat; she addresses the burnout that comes from always working twice as hard for half the recognition. The reader feels every moment deeply, understanding the toll exacted when survival mode becomes the norm.
Yet, the story doesn’t stop there. Danielle’s account is as empowering as it is honest. Her experiences become a roadmap, proving that growth is possible even amid systemic barriers. The powerful takeaway? Silence isn’t strength—it’s time to speak up.
Sisterhood, Resilience, and Joy as Resistance

“UNMUTED” isn’t simply a recounting of challenges; it’s a celebration of resilience and community. Danielle emphasizes sisterhood, highlighting the joy and rest found in connecting with others who understand your journey. Sisterhood isn’t just comforting—it’s revolutionary.
Danielle champions thriving on your own terms. Her experiences teach readers that living authentically, prioritizing mental health, and reclaiming personal power isn’t only achievable—it’s essential. Her call to action resonates loudly: Stop dimming your light to fit into spaces never meant for your brilliance.
A Movement Beyond Pages
“UNMUTED” doesn’t aim merely to inspire—it seeks to transform. Danielle is clear: This is a movement rooted in action. She urges readers to stop waiting for a seat at the table. Instead, she advocates building an entirely new one.
Through sharp cultural commentary and insightful strategies, she explores tangible ways to drive change. Her message speaks directly to those within tech, those curious about the field, and anyone dedicated to advocacy.

We had the privilege of interviewing Danielle Robinson. Here are excerpts from the interview.
Hi Danielle, It’s great to have you with us today! Please share about yourself with our readers.
Hi, I’m the author of UNMUTED: A Black Woman’s Voice in Tech. I’m also the founder and CEO of Cyber Boss Consulting, a cybersecurity firm dedicated to protecting organizations, especially those in healthcare and government, from today’s evolving threats.
My work blends technical expertise with lived experience. I come from a nontraditional background, and I know firsthand what it’s like to enter this industry as a single mother just trying to get a foot in the door. Since then, I’ve grown into a cybersecurity leader, built a firm from the ground up, mentored hundreds of aspiring professionals, and created training programs to help others break into tech.
UNMUTED is deeply personal to me. It’s a powerful reflection on what it means to exist, resist, and thrive as a Black woman in spaces that weren’t designed for us. Through this book, I hope to amplify voices that are often overlooked and inspire the next generation to speak up, take up space, and rewrite the narrative.
Please tell us about your journey.
I started as a single mother with two kids, doing everything I could to stay afloat. I worked as an investigator during the day and drove Uber at night. Life was hard, but I wanted more for myself and my children. So, I went back to school and earned my master’s degree in digital forensics and cybersecurity investigations.
Eventually, I shared my story on LinkedIn. That post went viral and opened doors I never imagined. Leaders across the cybersecurity industry reached out with mentorship and job offers. I accepted an opportunity from someone who didn’t just hire me. He believed in me. That belief changed everything.
Cybersecurity gave me the tools to change my life. It gave me the means to put my son through flight school. At 17, he was a private pilot. At 18, he is now working towards his commercial license. That kind of generational impact came from one person giving me a chance.
But my journey wasn’t smooth. I faced microaggressions, doubt, and disrespect. I was once told I wasn’t capable of doing the job. That crushed me at the time, but it also pushed me to prove myself. A few years later, that same person told me he was proud of me.
Over time, I stepped into leadership, mentored others, and launched my own cybersecurity firm. My first major contract with a healthcare organization helped fund The Lab, a hands-on mentorship program that trains future cybersecurity professionals.
And that brings me to UNMUTED.
This book was born from everything I’ve experienced. The struggles, the breakthroughs, the victories. It’s not just about my voice. It’s about making space for Black women in tech to be heard, respected, and seen. For every woman who has felt overlooked or underestimated, UNMUTED is a reminder that your story matters. Your voice matters. And we will no longer be silent.
What are the strategies that helped you become successful in your journey?
One of the biggest strategies that helped me succeed was being willing to start where I was with what I had. I didn’t wait for the perfect time or the perfect opportunity. I was working full-time, raising two kids, and driving Uber at night, but I still made space to go back to school and invest in myself. That mindset of progress over perfection kept me moving forward.
Another key strategy was using my voice. When I shared my story on LinkedIn, I wasn’t trying to go viral. I was just being honest. But that transparency opened doors. It connected me with people who saw my potential and wanted to help. From that moment on, I learned the power of visibility. Closed mouths don’t get fed. Speaking up changed everything.
I also stayed focused on building real relationships. Mentorship was huge for me. The man who gave me my first big break didn’t just hire me. He trained me and poured into me. I took that same approach and paid it forward. I’ve mentored countless others because I believe success is meant to be shared.
Lastly, I stayed true to my purpose. There were times I was underestimated, disrespected, or doubted, but I never let those experiences define me. I used them to fuel my growth. And when I launched Cyber Boss Consulting and later created The Lab, I made sure both were rooted in something bigger than me.
Success for me was never just about climbing the ladder. It was about building a ladder for others to climb too. Through my literature, my goal is to help other women see that their voice and their journey are powerful tools for change.
Any message for our readers?
