Meet Srinath Ramesh—The Genius Behind the Gripping Thriller ‘To Kill or Not to Kill’

Entering a World of Shadows and Doubts

Thriller lovers, rejoice—there’s a captivating new journey waiting for you in Srinath Ramesh’s debut novel, To Kill or Not to Kill. Available now on Amazon, this book isn’t your typical heart-racing thriller. Instead, it elegantly combines psychological intrigue with stunningly deep introspection, drawing readers into a universe cloaked in silence and secrets.

To Kill or Not to Kill plunges you into the world of a meticulously trained operative whose life revolves around precision, obedience, and absolute detachment. He’s been crafted for stealth and perfected to kill without remorse—yet beneath the lethal exterior lies a dormant humanity beginning to wake. A seed of uncertainty takes root, threatening to disrupt everything he believes about himself. Srinath masterfully asks profound questions that linger long after the final page: What happens when loyalty becomes imprisonment? Can identity truly exist when scripted by another?

Beyond Thrills—A Literary Exploration

Srinath-Ramesh

Srinath Ramesh, hailing from Chennai, India, weaves his passion for storytelling into every fiber of this narrative. With a background in Information Technology and a decade-long career in the IT sector, Srinath’s journey toward literature might seem unconventional. Yet, it’s his deep love for film, inspired by legendary directors like Tarkovsky, Bergman, Kubrick, and Kurosawa, that shapes his unique literary voice. These cinematic influences resonate clearly throughout the novel, creating scenes vivid enough to play like films in readers’ minds.

Winning recognition early in his writing career, Srinath impressively secured the All-India rank of 53 among 100,000 participants in a Poetry & Creative Writing competition. His flair for screenplay writing earned him accolades as well, notably for his screenplay From a Drop to an Ocean, awarded Best Screenplay at the prestigious Kodaikanal International Film Festival. Clearly, storytelling isn’t just Srinath’s interest—it’s a compelling force that defines him.

Characters Who Whisper Defiance

At the heart of To Kill or Not to Kill lies the unnamed protagonist, a character meticulously crafted to navigate the thin line between blind allegiance and quiet rebellion. Srinath’s hero isn’t brash or explosive; instead, he quietly questions the system he’s built to uphold. Each action, each thought, carries weight—creating a suspense that isn’t loud but rather simmers just beneath the surface, keeping readers in an ever-tightening grip of anticipation.

The atmosphere Srinath creates is precise yet hauntingly beautiful. Readers traverse dimly lit paths and murky psychological landscapes alongside the protagonist, encountering moral complexities at every turn. Each page offers more than just suspense; it’s a reflection, an invitation to ponder deeply about human nature, freedom, and the right to self-discovery.

It’s not merely about survival—it’s a confrontation with one’s soul, challenging perceptions about identity, obedience, and truth. We had the privilege of interviewing Srinath Ramesh. Here are excerpts from the interview.

Hi Srinath, It’s great to have you with us today! Please share about yourself with our readers.

Hi, I’m Srinath from Chennai. I come from a very modest background. I have lived with my parents and brother, who have been my pillar of support over the years. During my school days, I used to score high marks in English. My English teacher used to take my answer sheets as a reference for her son. But, once I finished my schooling, I had to join B Tech (IT) because I wanted to help out my family financially. While studying, I gained a passion for storytelling and filmmaking. Although it took 10 years to quit IT and start writing, I finally achieved it.

Please tell us about your journey.

I always thought that my first book/story/film should connect to everyone, and what better genre than a thriller/noir to achieve this. I knew I had to have a physically strong hero going through challenging times with a femme fatale doing her thing with the hero and otherwise, and a strong world built around them. I also knew I had to have a proper romance for the hero outside the femme fatale. But these are just the starting ingredients. We have accidents, amnesia, remembering/putting back pieces, a massive corporate structure, a major scandal, etc. I had written the Outline of this story 10 years back, but only after I quit my IT job, I was able to actually put the novel into words.

What are the strategies that helped you become successful in your journey?

The first strategy is taking notes of the ideas that you get. For me, ideas don’t come easily when I sit in front of a computer. The good ideas come when I’m walking or lying down. So, I write these as notes when I get access to my computer and separate the ideas into various stories depending on which idea suits which story. If it is an idea for an existing story that I’m writing, I add it to that folder. If it’s a completely new idea, I create a new folder for it. The next strategy is to outline. If you have your Outline ready, you can easily fill in the story and scenes around it.

Any message for our readers?

What I can tell you is that the novel is a page-turner. It has deep characterizations as much as twists and turns for you to enjoy. The book is unique in the sense that it has many conventional elements of the Thriller/Noir genre that would attract readers of the genre, as well as some surprise packages with additional concepts included. I hope you enjoy the book thoroughly.

Thank you so much, Srinath, for giving us your precious time! We wish you all the best for your journey ahead!
