We had the pleasure of interviewing Joshua Peck, Founder of TrueCode Capital, a cryptocurrency hedge fund designed to provide uncapped growth in the emerging cryptocurrency market while seeking to protect investor capital. He is the author of Cryptocurrency Risk Management: A guide for family wealth managers.
While managing his family office, he leveraged his deep quantitative background in financial engineering, machine learning, and applied mathematics to develop software and a system for growing his private family portfolio. After nearly a decade of testing, experimentation, and live trading with his proprietary strategy, he founded TrueCode Capital.
He is a frequent guest of the media and has been featured in: The Wall Street Journal, CBS MoneyWatch, U.S. World and News Report, and Forbes.
Here are the excerpts from the interview.
Hi Joshua, Great to have you with us today! Please share with our readers about your book, Cryptocurrency Risk Management: A guide for family wealth managers.
Hi, I wrote Cryptocurrency Risk Management because I saw too many people losing money in crypto investing because they didn’t understand the risks. And I saw too many people saying it was too risky and missing out on tremendous growth. I wanted to help people find a middle way, where crypto investing could be lucrative and safe, by helping them create a sober and thoughtful approach.
Please tell us more about your journey.
I started accumulating a bit of Bitcoin in 2013, but by 2017 it ballooned to nearly 50% of my net worth. It was exciting and terrifying! On the one hand, I liked the growth I had experienced; on the other, 50% of my net worth was invested in fake internet money, so I couldn’t sleep at night.
Since I had a background in applied mathematics and engineering, I began working on breaking down the risks of crypto investing. Initially, this was so I could understand it myself, but later I recognized that others were having the same experience, so I wrote a book to teach investors how to do it themselves, and I launched a crypto fund for investors who would rather I managed it for them.
What are the strategies that helped you become successful in your journey?
The oldest maxim in investing is “don’t lose money.” This is doubly true for crypto investing. These investments are so new that only a select few understand the risks. Once I understood the risks of crypto investing, I was able to invest calmly and confidently, which has helped me grow my portfolio by 74% per year while avoiding all of the public crypto failures that were in the headlines in 2022. And I sleep like a baby.
