Embracing Your True Self
Have you ever found yourself downplaying your intelligence, brushing off compliments, or shrinking to fit others’ expectations? You’re not alone—many people, especially women, frequently dim their own brilliance to avoid making others uncomfortable. M.A. Al Hebsi’s insightful book, Thank You, I Deserve It, tackles this common habit head-on, guiding readers toward embracing their gifts openly and unapologetically.
Al Hebsi knows firsthand what it’s like to navigate societal pressures. As an Emirati woman balancing an impressive engineering career with deep spiritual insights, she has often encountered the expectation to choose: be liked or be fully herself. Instead of compromising, she learned to integrate all facets of her identity—and now she invites readers to do the same. Her approach is gentle yet powerful, helping readers peel back layers of internalized beliefs to reveal their true, unapologetic selves.
Understanding Your Gifts

According to Al Hebsi, your talents and gifts are not mere coincidences. Whether it’s your beauty, intelligence, empathy, or ambition—each trait you possess carries meaning. These are reflections of your soul’s journey, intended not for concealment but for celebration. Through relatable stories and practical exercises, Al Hebsi guides readers toward uncovering the deep-seated beliefs that prevent them from fully accepting these gifts.
She prompts readers to ask themselves tough yet illuminating questions: Have you ever hidden your beauty to be taken seriously at work? Have you dismissed achievements, telling others “it was nothing” to avoid appearing boastful? Al Hebsi assures her readers that recognizing and honoring your talents doesn’t mean inflating your ego. Instead, it’s about embracing your authentic essence with grace and confidence.
Overcoming External and Internal Barriers
One of the strongest aspects of Thank You, I Deserve It is its candid exploration of how societal and cultural pressures influence self-perception. Al Hebsi thoughtfully addresses issues like beauty biases, cultural expectations, and the silent yet powerful competition women often face. Through her own stories of navigating workplace dynamics and overcoming female rivalry, she provides actionable guidance on moving forward with dignity and authenticity.
Al Hebsi’s approach also includes practical exercises designed to facilitate self-awareness and healing. By identifying areas where you’ve habitually minimized yourself—whether consciously or unconsciously—you begin the empowering journey toward reclaiming your full self. The book’s affirmations and reflective practices become tools, helping readers gently yet firmly dismantle the barriers that have limited them.
The Ripple Effect of Self-Acceptance
Perhaps one of the book’s most inspiring messages is about the ripple effect of fully embracing your gifts. Al Hebsi reminds us that by stepping confidently into our brilliance, we naturally create space for others to do the same. Your boldness and self-assuredness become contagious, giving permission and courage to those around you.
The book emphasizes that expressing gratitude for your abilities isn’t arrogance—it’s acknowledgment. Saying “Thank you, I deserve it” is a transformative affirmation, moving you from hesitance to harmony with your true self. Al Hebsi encourages readers to make this affirmation their own, repeating it until it becomes second nature.
If you’ve ever felt trapped between humility and self-expression, uncertain how to reconcile your gifts with societal expectations, Thank You, I Deserve It serves as the ultimate permission slip. Al Hebsi’s inviting style, relatable experiences, and spiritual depth create an engaging journey for readers at any stage of self-discovery.
Embracing your gifts fully and openly doesn’t just change your life—it uplifts those around you. Al Hebsi’s book is a heartfelt call to action: stop dimming your light, stop apologizing for your brilliance, and start shining brightly. Because, after all, your gifts were never meant to be hidden. They were always meant to inspire.
We had the privilege of interviewing the author. Here are excerpts from the interview:
Thank you so much for joining us today!
Please introduce yourself and tell us what you do.
I’m Mouza Alhebsi, an Emirati engineer and author of “Thank You, I Deserve It: Embracing Your Gifts Without Apology.” I work in a specialized engineering field where women are rare, which taught me about navigating spaces that expect you to fragment yourself to fit in. Now I help people—especially women—embrace their complete selves without apology, showing them they can be both beautiful and brilliant, successful and spiritual.
Please tell us about your story/journey.
My journey began when I realized I’d spent years diminishing myself to make others comfortable. As someone with both beauty and technical expertise, I constantly heard comments like “How did someone so pretty end up in engineering?” So I fragmented myself—dimming my appearance to be taken seriously professionally, and downplaying my expertise socially.
The turning point came after attending an “Authentic Speaker” course. I sat with myself and realized that by diminishing my gifts to appease others’ insecurities, I wasn’t serving anyone. That reflection led to writing my book—understanding that our wholeness isn’t threatening, it’s healing.
What are the strategies that helped you become successful in your journey?
The Sacred Pause: Before reacting to others’ assumptions, I learned to pause and respond from wisdom rather than emotion.
Reframing My Gifts: I stopped seeing my qualities as conflicting and started understanding them as complementary expressions of divine energy.
Understanding Triggers: When people reacted negatively to my gifts, I learned their response revealed their wounds, not my unworthiness.
Practicing “Thank You, I Deserve It”: These five words rewired my brain from unworthiness to deservingness.
Integration Over Balance: Instead of compartmentalizing myself, I practiced allowing all my qualities to exist simultaneously.
Any message for our readers
You were born worthy—by design. Stop apologizing for your light and stop fragmenting yourself to fit others’ expectations. Your complete, authentic self isn’t too much—it’s exactly what the world needs.
Whether you’re blessed with beauty, intelligence, creativity, or any other gift—embrace them fully. Your gifts aren’t random; they reflect energy you’ve cultivated throughout your soul’s journey.
To young women: refuse the false choices society imposes. Be both beautiful and brilliant, ambitious and kind. Your abundance doesn’t create others’ lack—when you shine, you reveal what’s possible for everyone.
Say it with me: “Thank you. I deserve it.”
Thank you so much, Mouza Alhebsi, for giving us your precious time! We wish you all the best for your journey ahead!
