Connie Leininger’s “Wounded Souls” – A Heartwarming Narrative of Love and Forgiveness

If you’re on the hunt for a novel that beautifully intertwines themes of forgiveness, healing, and second chances, Connie Leininger’s “Wounded Souls” might just be your next great read. Blending humor, romance, and a touch of spice, this story invites readers into the lives of flawed yet lovable characters who navigate the complexities of love and redemption.

A Tale of Second Chances and Redemption

At the heart of “Wounded Souls” is Emmett, a man who, at the end of his life, faces a profound choice. Unable to communicate in his final days, he’s offered a unique opportunity: he can either continue in his silent state or pass on his remaining time to someone who has never experienced life on earth. Emmett chooses the latter, giving life to Gabe—a soul on a mission to protect Emmett’s family and guide them toward forgiveness.

Gabe’s journey is not just about fulfilling a mission; it’s about rectifying the regrets of a past life. Tasked with helping Emmett’s loved ones avoid the mistakes he once made, Gabe becomes a beacon of wisdom and support. However, his path is anything but straightforward. As he immerses himself in the lives of those he’s meant to help, he finds himself distracted, jeopardizing his ability to complete his assignment.

Peyton’s Journey Through Love and Self-Discovery

Enter Peyton, Emmett’s granddaughter—a young woman whose life took an unexpected turn after a single night led to an unplanned pregnancy. Once an honor student with a bright future, Peyton now balances the challenges of being a single mother to her daughter, Riley. Co-parenting with Colby, Riley’s father, is no easy feat. The spark between Peyton and Colby is undeniable, but his laid-back approach to commitment leaves her questioning whether she’ll ever find true love.

Adding to the mix is Braden, Peyton’s fiancé, who is grappling with his own struggles in a post-pandemic economy. Peyton finds herself torn between the familiar allure of Colby and the stability that Braden represents. Her internal battle is one that many can relate to—the fear of repeating past mistakes versus the hope of a better future.

Gabe: A Guide from the Past

Gabe enters Peyton’s life with a wisdom that feels both new and comfortingly familiar, reminiscent of her late grandfather. His presence serves as a catalyst for change, encouraging Peyton to confront her fears and insecurities. Through their interactions, Gabe helps her realize that life is too fleeting to be spent in doubt and hesitation.

But Gabe’s role isn’t just about guiding Peyton; it’s also about his own redemption. Carrying the soul of Emmett, he is haunted by the words left unspoken and the time wasted during his previous life. Helping Peyton becomes a way for him to make peace with his past, but his growing attachment to her and her family begins to blur the lines of his mission.

Embracing Life’s Imperfections

Wounded Souls” doesn’t shy away from the messy realities of life. Connie Leininger crafts characters who are authentically flawed and endearingly quirky. Their struggles are real, their mistakes relatable, and their journeys toward healing resonate on a deeply human level.

The novel masterfully mixes serious themes with moments of humor and romance, making it not just a thought-provoking read but an enjoyable one as well. It’s a reminder that every ending can spark a new beginning, and that sometimes, the path to healing is found in the most unexpected places.

We had the privilege of interviewing the author. Here are excerpts from the interview:

Hi, Please introduce yourself and tell us about what you do.

My name is Connie Leininger. I am a native of St. Louis, Missouri, and currently retired. I enjoy traveling and exploring Missouri wineries. When not spending time with friends and family, I can be found walking my feisty cattle dog, Wiley.

Please tell us about your book Wounded Souls.

The theme of my book is forgiveness and healing. At the end of Emmett’s life, He is given a choice: He can live out the rest of his days unable to communicate or bequeath his time to someone who has never taken a breath on earth. His choice gives life to Gabe, whose mission is to protect Emmett’s family and help them find forgiveness.

Emmett’s grandaughter, Peyton, is a single mother who balances a complicated relationship with her daughter’s father, Colby, and her fiancé, Braden, who struggles in a post-pandemic economy.

Their worlds intersect, and as Gabe works to fulfill his assignment, he finds himself distracted and falls short of his goals, jeopardizing his ability to help Peyton discover her truth and find a path toward healing.

I believe Wounded Souls is fun to read. Although it deals with serious issues, it mixes humor and romance with a little spice.

What inspired you to write Wounded Souls

I was inspired to write Wounded Souls many years ago while working and raising my family. Although I made several attempts to start a novel, I eventually deleted everything. It wasn’t until I retired and had time to focus that I could complete it.

Even though I had an outline to follow, the characters would sometimes take over, and I was surprised at how the plot unfolded. Those are some of my favorite chapters. I didn’t always write chapters in order, either. If I got an idea for a dialog or a scene, I felt the need to write it out quickly so I didn’t lose it. Unfortunately, I exceeded my word count and had to painfully cut characters and storylines.

Any message for our readers

My characters are flawed and quirky, and I hope you love them as much as I do.

Thank you so much, Connie, for giving us your precious time! We wish you all the best for your journey ahead!
