Who is William Russ?

William Russ is an American actor and television director most famously remembered for portraying Alan Matthews on the popular sitcom Boy Meets World which ran from 1993 until 2000. He has also appeared in the popular TV series Wiseguy and The Young and the Restless. Some of his other prominent feature films include The Right Stuff (An American epic historical drama released in 1983), Pastime (an American drama film released in 1990), as well as portraying Dennis Vinyard in 1998s American History X.
The talented actor has appeared in over 40 credited roles throughout the years and has kept a very busy schedule throughout his career.

Early career

William started his acting career in front of a New York stage before finally embarking on television and film appearances. He had his first role in 1977 when he played a supporting character in Death Bed: The Bed That Eats. Although the film wasn’t officially released until 2003, the up-and-coming actor was quickly noticed by other Hollywood casting producers and offered many roles following his performance.
In the 1980s, William was cast in another supporting role in Crisis at Central High (1981), where he starred alongside the Academy Award-winning actress Joanne Woodward. He also appeared in The Border (Released in 1981), The Right Stuff (1983), where he played Slick Goodlin, St. Elsewehere (1986), and Crime Story (An American crime drama television series which ran for two seasons from September 18, 1986, until May of 1988). His career had taken off by this point, and he continued to appear in other TV roles, such a guest-starring in an episode of Miami Vice in 1985 as Evan, the title character.

He also made fifteen appearances from 1987-1990 on the crime drama Wiseguy, playing Roger Lococco. William received acclaim from critics when he appeared in 1991s Pastime as Roy Dean Bream, a veteran minor league hurler who coached a young phenomenon.

This role even earned him the “Best Male Lead.” Award in 1992s Independent Spirit Awards.
In 1993 he was cast as Alan Matthews on the popular sitcom Boy Meets World. This role would go on for over 7 years until the series finale in 2000. Alongside acting, William has also directed several episodes on the show during its last three seasons. His other directorial credits include being behind the camera for Rude Awakening and Lizzie McGuire.

His more recent roles:

William Russ was cast as Tucker in the fall of 2009 on the popular soap opera series The Young and the Restless, although he played the role briefly and was subsequently recast with Stephen Nichols. William also portrayed Bob, a homeless man who has recently moved in with the son he abandoned at birth in the comedy web series Home at Last. His most popular role in recent times was Alan Matthews in the Boy Meets World spinoff Girl Meets World. He also directed an episode in season 2 of the series.
