Uncover the Strength Within with Sarita Scales’ Inspiring Memoir ‘Surviving My Generational Curse’

In Surviving My Generational Curse: Never Let People Define You, Sarita Scales opens a powerful window into her life, sharing her deeply personal journey through family dysfunction, personal healing, and, ultimately, self-reclamation. Sarita, a semi-retired professional who worked for years in finance and real estate, is a mother of three adult children and a grandmother of two. Her story, as outlined in her book, is one of survival against overwhelming odds, breaking free from a toxic family dynamic that could have easily defined her future. Her powerful memoir can be found on Amazon.

A Childhood Defined by Trauma

Sarita’s story begins in her childhood home, where the person meant to offer love and support—her mother—was instead the source of much of her suffering. Her mother, whom Sarita describes as an undiagnosed narcissist, maintained a façade of perfection around others. But once the company left and the doors closed, “The Pretender,” as Sarita calls her, revealed her true nature. Sarita paints a vivid picture of a home marked by violence, name-calling, and cursing. These encounters would often last for hours, leaving scars that ran deep. Sarita’s father and she were her mother’s primary targets, and the abuse continued for years, right up until her mother’s passing at the age of 97.

In the midst of these painful memories, Sarita reflects on how her family was not held together by love, but rather by a constant cycle of dysfunction. It was a world far removed from the Barbie-doll fantasy many children dream of. Instead of security and comfort, Sarita was met with turmoil and chaos. From a young age, she learned that survival meant finding her own path in a world that seemed to be stacked against her.

Finding Strength Through Resilience

As she navigated her tumultuous upbringing, Sarita was forced to develop resilience. The very people who should have protected her—her mother, her family—betrayed her time and again. Trust became a fragile concept, constantly broken and never fully repaired. For Sarita, survival meant learning to move on from one betrayal to the next without allowing the weight of it to crush her spirit.

She learned that the key to resilience lies in embracing life’s twists and turns, accepting setbacks without viewing them as failures. It’s a process of self-reinvention, something Sarita speaks to with raw honesty. Throughout her life, Sarita was repeatedly told she was worthless, but she refused to let those words define her. Each step she takes now is for herself, not for the approval of others. It’s a powerful message of self-empowerment—one that encourages readers to rise above the expectations and limitations placed on them by others.

Uncovering Family Secrets

One of the most compelling elements of Surviving My Generational Curse is Sarita’s willingness to confront the painful truths and family secrets that have shaped her. In peeling back the layers of her mother’s carefully curated public persona, Sarita uncovers the emotional scars her mother inflicted not only on her but also on her siblings. Sarita’s courage in facing these bitter truths is a testament to her strength and determination to break the cycle of dysfunction that plagued her family for generations.

Through her storytelling, Sarita invites readers into the depths of her pain, while also showing that healing is possible. Her journey to redemption has been long and winding, often filled with moments where she felt lost and broken. But in writing her story, Sarita found a path to mending her shattered spirit. It was through the process of reflection and writing that she gained the wisdom needed to understand her past and shape her future.

A Story of Hope and Empowerment

At its core, Surviving My Generational Curse is a story of hope. Despite the trauma she endured, Sarita’s message is clear: you can reclaim your life, no matter how broken it seems. Her road to healing was not easy, and there were many times when she turned to temporary fixes in an attempt to piece herself back together. But over time, she realized that true healing required her to face her demons, both inside and outside of her family.

Today, Sarita stands proudly in her truth. The wisdom she has gained from writing her book has allowed her to look back on her life with a sense of empowerment. By sharing her story, she hopes to inspire others to learn from her mistakes and to understand that they, too, can rise above their circumstances. Her message is clear: don’t let others define you. Define yourself, and take control of your own story.

In Surviving My Generational Curse, Sarita Scales not only tells her story but also offers a blueprint for anyone looking to break free from the generational curses that hold them back. It is a deeply personal and inspiring account of overcoming the odds, finding inner strength, and ultimately, embracing the power of self-love. For those who have experienced similar challenges or who are simply seeking a story of resilience and redemption, Sarita’s journey offers a beacon of hope.

Sarita’s final words encapsulate the essence of her story: “Each step I take now is for me and not the approval of others.” This sentiment, coupled with the lessons learned from a lifetime of struggle, is what makes Surviving My Generational Curse a must-read for anyone on their own path to healing and self-discovery. Readers can find it easily available on Amazon.

We had the privilege of interviewing Sarita Scales. Here are excerpts from the interview:

Hi Sarita, It’s great to have you with us today! Please share about yourself with our readers.

Hi, I am semi-retired, and I have worked for years in the finance and real estate field. I have three adult children and two granddaughters.

Please tell us about your book, Surviving My Generational Curse.

The book is about my journey being raised by a mother who was an undiagnosed Narcissistic person. Who tried to control her family’s lives. In front of others, she was the perfect Host until the company left and the door closed. The Pretender (as I call her) was released, and depending on the visit, the encounters were violent with bloodshed, name-calling, and cursing, and could last for hours. It was a scary situation. However, this became our everyday life. No one came to our defense. My father and I were her main victims. I never expected my Mother would be my worst enemy. She was hell-bent on destroying my life. This lasted until she passed away at the age of 97 years old.

Please share your journey with our readers.

I had to grow up being in the survival mode all the time. The streets raised me because my parents were busy in their own lives, just fighting to care about their children. Never stopping to think about the effects this created on their children. Imagine I had to breathe, eat, and sleep in this environment. Eventually, it becomes engrained in your soul.

What are the strategies that helped you become successful in your journey?

It was not until I had a near-death experience in 2023 that all my suppressed memories began flowing out. While trying to recover from this traumatic event, I realized these negative thoughts were preventing me from healing. At the suggestion of my Therapist, I started writing. At first, it was rough to realize all the signs I had ignored. I blamed myself for being blinded by all of this. I knew now, years ago, I should have separated myself from this family. And knew, I was trying to run from the problem that followed me like a shadow. I was masking the issue with drugs, alcohol, and sex and that none of these had cured what was inside. I had to make a difference and rely on my own understanding and belief. I had to understand every step I took was being ordered by God. Even writing this book and telling my story needed to come out in the light. Too many families want to keep the secrets inside the family. But, they never take into account the mental damage the secrets are causing. My family ignored everything. By believing in God and knowing my Guardian Angels were protecting me, this allowed me to survive.
