Step Into Light and Magic with Author Lyck Liss’s ‘The Count’s Dark Threat’

A Journey into Light and Shadows: The Count’s Dark Threat by Lyck Liss

Every so often, a story comes along that blends thrilling adventure with meaningful lessons. The Count’s Dark Threat by Lyck Liss, the first book in the Little Beings of Light series, offers exactly that. Written for middle-grade readers, it takes young audiences on an unforgettable ride through distant galaxies, shadowy realms, and enchanted lands. Along the way, the book highlights values that children can carry into their everyday lives. Fans of Percy Jackson or The Chronicles of Narnia will feel right at home, while discovering something fresh and unique.

A Battle Between Darkness and Light

In this gripping fantasy, ordinary children find themselves swept into a cosmic conflict far bigger than they could have imagined. The world of Endless Darkness threatens to engulf the realm of The Almighty Light, and an ancient evil stirs. At the heart of this danger stands the sinister Count Daark, a chilling figure whose pursuit of power places lives in jeopardy.

The young heroes, including Blue and Dee Litleone, must face frightening trials as they journey across their land in search of a loved one under threat. The stakes are high, the clock is ticking, and their courage is tested at every turn. From storm-laden skies to mysterious landscapes filled with danger, the children discover that friendship and teamwork are their most powerful weapons. Readers will feel the urgency as they race alongside the characters to outwit Count Daark and his ruthless forces.

A small but vital piece of the puzzle is Lou, the adventurous puppy with tricolored fur and a destiny bigger than anyone suspects. Guided by the Sun Order, Lou becomes a symbol of hope and protection, reminding readers that even the smallest among us can carry great importance.

The Heart of the Story: Values to Live By

What sets The Count’s Dark Threat apart is the way it weaves adventure with values. The narrative is anchored in the Aria Sagin Values of Humanity, a guiding light for both the characters and readers. These include kindness to others, care for animals, defending the defenceless, developing talents, protecting the environment, valuing family and friends, exercising both body and mind, practising inclusion, and seeking understanding.

As the children face dark forces, these principles shape their choices and strengthen their bond. The story shows that values aren’t just abstract ideals; they’re practical tools that help young heroes—and young readers—navigate the challenges of life.

A Fantasy Adventure with Lasting Impact

The Count’s Dark Threat is more than a thrilling read—it’s a meaningful journey that combines magical storytelling with important lessons about resilience, empathy, and the strength of unity. We had the privilege of interviewing Lyck Liss. Here are excerpts from the interview.

Hi, it’s great to have you with us today! Please share about yourself with our readers.

Hello, essentially, I am a storyteller, and it has been a big dream of mine to bring stories to the children of the world that captivate and inspire them in their solitude and in the company of their loved ones.

Please tell us about your journey.

Writing has been an important part of my life for as long as I can remember. It all began with a very ambitious (and not quite finished) whodunit novel in first grade. I believe it was my beagle, Lykke, who inspired me to create a book series. I vividly recall the moment it all started in a bookshop located in Trafalgar Square in London, UK. During that visit, my beagle somehow sniffed out a Children’s Writers and Authors Yearbook 2012 from one of the shelves. That was my try-a-ha moment! Since then, I have navigated through countless drafts, celebrated tiny victories, and embraced the wonderful process of writing children’s stories. Along the way, I’ve teamed up with superb collaborators like the illustrating team Dazzling Media and editor Kerry Plume, who helped bring my visions to life.

What are the strategies that helped you become successful in your journey?

I believe that writing stories and content you truly feel passionate about sharing should be at the centre of your journey. Consistency and maintaining a dedicated writing schedule are essential—being a committed vessel for the story that unfolds within you, nurturing it by understanding your characters, worlds, and the events that materialize in your manuscript. Showing appreciation for those you collaborate with is also crucial, as their support brings your vision to life. Additionally, testing your story ideas with the target reader community is an invaluable step to ensure your work resonates and connects with your audience.
