“Zombies & Other Unpleasant Things” by William Bebb offers short—and sometimes longer—stories packed with zombies and disturbing surprises. Giant six-foot pink bunnies may appear at 2:47 in the morning, clowns turn murderous, and an old man believes he’s a stealthy ninja. These tales fuse terror with bursts of humor, creating a balance between unease and amusement. While zombies play a big role, Bebb also explores other unsettling elements that creep up when least expected. Anyone who enjoys dark humor, unexpected twists, and more than a little gore will find something to love in this collection. Each story carries a distinct tone, yet they’re unified by a mischievous approach to horror. The writing is accessible and direct, drawing readers in before shocking them with bizarre turns. Scenes jump from eerie quiet to frantic mayhem in a blink, leaving audiences both frightened and entertained. This volume even includes a tragic shove from a tall building—one of many moments that prove no character is safe. Bebb’s knack for blending grotesque imagery with wry comedy highlights a world where laughter and gasps go hand in hand.
Sinister Stories
A highlight is “Southwestern Road Trip,” which continues from “Valley of Death—Zombie Trailer Park.” Deputy Bo Autry, Sheriff Guiteriz, and ICE officer Keith Dudley try to enjoy time near Albuquerque, only to face chaos instead. Readers can pick how the story ends, each option worse than the last. Bebb transforms a casual road trip into a thrill ride complete with undead threats, comedic touches. Another standout, “The Fall of Bayonne,” unfolds in a prison where an execution goes horribly wrong, unleashing a horde of infected. Inmates and guards must scramble to survive in claustrophobic corridors, heightening tension with every turn.

Not every tale focuses on zombies. “Waking at 2:47AM” explores nightmares slipping into reality, forcing a father to face horrors that haunt his sleep. “Chef’s Surprise” starts as a murder investigation, then derails when psychotic clowns and undead creatures arrive. This collision of the mundane and the macabre typifies Bebb’s style—he’ll pivot from a calm scenario to complete pandemonium in seconds. “Disgusting Campfire Tales” mocks critics who find Bebb’s work too gross, piling on gore with gleeful abandon. “Fortunate Cookie” follows a lonely girl whose ending isn’t quite an end at all, proving that the author can deliver bittersweet moments alongside bone-chilling carnage. These stories vary in length but share a kinetic energy that leaves readers bracing for the next shocking twist. Even a pink bunny, seemingly innocent, becomes a nightmare waiting to happen in the middle of the night.
