Diving into Darkness and Uncovering Secrets
What happens when the person you’ve admired your whole life turns into someone you can’t recognize? That’s exactly what K. Peterson explores in her gripping sci-fi thriller, S.C.E.L. Readers plunge headfirst into the unsettling yet fascinating world of Leander “Leo” Stanton—a young doctor stepping into residency at Stanton General, a hospital bearing his own powerful family’s name. But Leo quickly learns that the legacy he’s chasing isn’t what it seems.
From the very first day of Leo’s residency, the lines between trust and betrayal blur. He’s there not only to prove himself professionally but also hoping to reconnect with his distant father. Stanton General boasts a reputation of medical miracles and cutting-edge treatments—particularly its revolutionary cure known as “the elixir.” Yet, as Leo delves deeper, he finds that beneath the prestigious veneer lies a shocking reality of manipulation, disappearances, and sinister family secrets.
The Horrifying Truth Beneath Stanton General
The genius of Peterson’s storytelling lies in the slow unraveling of secrets hidden beneath the glossy façade of Stanton General. As children mysteriously vanish and patients become pawns in dangerous games, Leo discovers S.C.E.L., a secret program intricately tied to his own lineage. The truth shakes him to the core, revealing disturbing practices that challenge everything Leo has ever known about medicine, ethics, and family.
Peterson masterfully blends elements of suspense and science fiction, crafting a thriller that keeps readers guessing. There’s an eerie quality to how reality distorts as Leo digs deeper. Questions mount: Who can he trust? How far-reaching is his family’s influence? And most chillingly—what sacrifices are being made in the name of progress?
The story doesn’t shy away from darker themes. It’s a gripping exploration of morality, fanaticism, and the terrifying potential when science falls into unethical hands. Peterson delivers startling twists and gut-punch betrayals that make S.C.E.L. impossible to put down.
Meet Leander Stanton: The Man Behind the Legacy
Leo Stanton isn’t your typical hero, and that’s precisely why readers find him compelling. He’s relatable, imperfect, and deeply conflicted. His journey is not just about exposing corruption but about self-discovery. Born into privilege, Leo grapples with the weight of expectation that comes with his name. His struggle becomes a powerful reminder of how easily one’s greatest strength can become their most profound curse.
Peterson gives Leo depth through relatable doubts and emotional vulnerability. His authenticity keeps readers invested—not just in unraveling the mystery, but in his personal quest for identity and integrity. As Leo confronts the truth about Stanton General, he’s forced to face uncomfortable questions about who he is, what he stands for, and whether he can break away from a legacy steeped in darkness.
Getting Personal with K. Peterson
Behind S.C.E.L. stands author K. Peterson—known personally as Kim—a writer whose passion and sincerity shine through every chapter. Though she wrestled with self-doubt, Kim persevered for over fifteen years to bring this story to life. Her determination shows vividly, turning a childhood promise—“I’m writing a book”—into reality.
Kim’s genuine care for people saturates each character. They’re vivid, complex, and messy, reflections of Peterson’s own humanity. Her authenticity resonates deeply, adding layers of richness to the narrative. Readers don’t just engage with the plot—they connect profoundly with the characters, each a piece of Peterson herself.
For Kim, the writing process wasn’t just a creative pursuit; it was a journey of self-discovery. In many ways, S.C.E.L. is Peterson laid bare—her dreams, fears, and hopes intricately woven into the storyline. Hi, it’s great to have you with us today! Please share about your book with our readers.
Hello, my book is a sci-fi thriller about a young doctor named Leander—Leo—who starts his residency at his family’s elite hospital, thinking he’s finally stepping into the legacy he’s always wanted to be part of. But the deeper he gets into the system, the more he realizes things aren’t what they seem. The hospital has a perfect image, but underneath that, there are secrets—and not just shady business deals or internal politics. Serious, disturbing stuff that’s been hidden from the public for decades. And it’s all tied to his family.
Leo starts pulling at threads, and what unravels changes everything—not just about his career, but about who he is and how he came to be. There are twists, betrayals, and some really messed-up science. And yeah, it gets dark. If you like slow-burn unraveling, conspiracy, and characters who are forced to question everything they believe in, this book’s probably for you.
Please tell us about your journey.
What I want to say is that this journey took me a very, very long time—but the years I spent writing it were nothing compared to the number of times I rewrote this story. Before I ever settled on this final draft and manuscript, I almost quit entirely. There were so many nights I cried to my friends, telling them how I thought this story was trash. But deep down, I still had so much faith in it.
And finally, one day, Leander’s story just… clicked. It formed in my mind clearly, and I finally had a real direction. The original idea for this book was actually meant to be part of a series—I had the heart of it already mapped out in my mind. But to set everything in motion, I realized I had to start with Leo. He’s the foundation. And let me tell you… he’s been a pain in my butt.
But now, I’ve grown to love him. I know him. He feels like a friend to me, and I hope that somewhere in this book, you find a character you connect with too.
All I really wanted to do was create a piece of art. Something that people—especially those who don’t usually read—might pick up and actually enjoy. Before I ever fell in love with reading, all it took was one book to hook me. That one book opened the door for so many others. And maybe… maybe this could be that book for someone else. If it is, then I’ve done my job.
Any message for our readers?
The best message I can offer anyone reading this right now is: don’t give up. Even when it feels like you should. I’ve never had any formal writing training—unless you count my measly two years of dicking around in community college (with no degree obtained). The only actual writing course I ever took was Writing 122.
Everything else? I learned by reading. So many books.
I designed the book cover. I edited the manuscript—so yes, you’ll probably spot a few errors here and there. But that’s okay. The point is: sometimes you have to do the thing for yourself. Maybe someday I’ll have the funds to polish it up and smooth out all the creases. But right now, this story means everything to me.
And despite its flaws, it’s perfect to me, just like Leander. And hopefully… like Leander will be to you.
Thank you so much for giving us your precious time! We wish you all the best for your journey ahead!
