The 7th Disciple: Time Witness isn’t standard time-travel fiction. It’s a layered story that weaves modern adolescence with centuries of hidden history. The core premise: a Grantham schoolboy boards the wrong bus and slips into a timeline that shouldn’t exist, observed by a “Disciple” who’s lived for 1,024 years. Beneath the surface, the novel interrogates memory, consequence, and the tension between fate and agency.

The roots go back over forty years to my own childhood, lying awake during forced afternoon naps and imagining I lived another life elsewhere. That became the seed for a multiverse—questioning whether time is linear, or simply a sequence of snapshots (“tableaus”), with most people moving blindly from one to the next. In the book, only seven Disciples can travel nonlinearly through these tableaus, each serving a 1,024-year term. This project began as a collaboration with my son, Elliott—blending my lifelong questions about time and memory with his perspective. We built the world together and now share the story as a living memory between us. Our move from Sheffield to Grantham, Lincolnshire—a small town that produced both Isaac Newton and Margaret Thatcher—marks not just a new chapter for our family, but also a tribute to the place itself.
What are the strategies that helped you become successful in your journey?
Clarity and execution. I focus on breaking complex problems into actionable steps and never confuse activity with progress. In both academia and writing, I rely on ruthless prioritization and regular self-critique—if something isn’t working, I cut it. I don’t rely on inspiration. I treat creativity like any other discipline: show up, do the work, and refine relentlessly.
