Little Amish Girl by Viola Estrella
Little Amish Girl by Viola Estrella is a moving journey through loss, survival, and the power of reclaiming one’s identity. At ten years old, Ivy Schrock’s life shatters after unimaginable abuse at the hands of her father. Taken from her Amish community and placed in foster care, Ivy faces a system where safety is uncertain and trust is fragile. Each new family brings new challenges, yet with every setback, she learns more about her own strength. Her voice becomes her anchor—proof that even in silence, resilience can grow.
As Ivy’s story unfolds, readers witness the slow rebuilding of a life once broken. Viola writes with empathy and precision, creating a world that feels painfully real yet beautifully hopeful. Ivy learns to live beyond her scars. Through the kindness of strangers, moments of friendship, and a newfound creative passion, Ivy begins to see that healing is a foundation for something stronger.

The Heart Behind the Story
Viola, a 2010 RITA® finalist known for her romance novels, takes a bold step into emotional literary fiction with Little Amish Girl. This novel marks a personal and creative turning point for her. Born in 1974, shortly after her parents left their Amish community, Viola grew up with stories of struggle and perseverance that deeply shaped her outlook. Her mother’s experiences—surviving trauma and finding the strength to rebuild her life—became the heartbeat of Ivy’s story.
Through Ivy, Viola explores the complexity of breaking free from generational pain and redefining one’s place in the world. She shows how small acts of courage can shift the course of a life. The story is a tribute to endurance and the quiet victories of survival.

Viola’s writing feels deeply intimate, as though she’s guiding readers through her own memories. She channels her family’s past into a narrative that’s both haunting and healing. Every page reflects her belief that even in the darkest moments, there’s a spark waiting to be reignited.
From Romance to Realism
For years, Viola built her reputation in the world of romance fiction. Her debut, Angel Vindicated, earned her recognition as the first digital-first author to become a RWA RITA® finalist. Yet, despite her early success, the unpredictable nature of publishing forced her to step away from writing. During that time, she balanced work and family, believing her storytelling chapter might be closed for good.
But stories have a way of finding their way back. Viola eventually returned to writing, this time with a clearer voice and deeper purpose. Little Amish Girl became the product of that rediscovery—a novel that speaks from the heart and honors her roots. It’s about learning how to love oneself after a lifetime of loss.

In this shift from romance to realism, Viola proves her versatility as a storyteller. Her prose remains heartfelt, but her focus broadens. She explores pain, faith, forgiveness, and the enduring human need to belong. It’s the kind of story that lingers, asking readers to reflect on what it means to heal.
A Novel of Resilience and Renewal
Little Amish Girl stands out as a raw yet hopeful exploration of the human spirit. Ivy’s story is one of heartbreak, yes, but it’s also one of rebirth. Readers see her stumble, rise, and rebuild. By the end, what remains is a portrait of courage—a reminder that the past may shape us, but it doesn’t have to define us.
Viola’s storytelling invites readers into an emotional space where pain coexists with possibility. Her ability to weave empathy into every chapter turns Ivy’s personal battle into something universal. Whether readers connect through their own struggles or through simple compassion, the story resonates deeply.
At home in Colorado with her husband and two spoiled dogs, Viola continues to write with the same sincerity that defines Little Amish Girl. Her work is a reflection of resilience passed down through generations. With this book, she offers readers both a tear and a smile, leaving them inspired by one girl’s unwavering strength to find light after darkness.
We had the privilege of interviewing the author. Here are excerpts from the interview:
Thank you so much for joining us today! Please introduce yourself and tell us what you do.
Hello! I’m an award-winning author and 2010 RWA RITA® Finalist. I was born in 1974, shortly after my parents left the Amish community, a decision that changed the course of our family’s lives. My latest book, Little Amish Girl, is a raw and emotional departure from my traditional romance novels and was inspired by my mother’s remarkable story of resilience.
She endured great hardship and abuse as a child growing up Amish yet found the strength to leave that world behind and build a new life across the country from where she grew up. Her experiences inspired Little Amish Girl, a deeply emotional work of fiction about survival, forgiveness, and the healing power of starting over.
Please tell us about your journey.
I’ve been writing for about seventeen years, balancing my passion for storytelling with raising a family and working. My first published book, Angel Vindicated, became the first digital-first novel to final in the RWA RITA® competition, a milestone that affirmed my path. Still, the financial challenges of publishing led me to take a long break, and for a while, I thought my writing days were over. But stories have a way of calling you back. I eventually rediscovered my voice, and Little Amish Girl represents that return. It’s a more personal and emotional chapter in my journey as a writer.
What are the strategies that helped you become successful in your journey?
Perseverance has been my greatest strategy. Writing takes a stubborn kind of hope to keep going when success feels far away. Having a thick skin and being a bit delusional doesn’t hurt. And I never stop honing my craft.
