A Magical Adventure Begins in Moonshade Hollow
Michelle Lori’s charming debut, The Charm Keepers of Moonshade Hollow: The Imperfect Spell, kicks off a whimsical new fantasy series brimming with heart and humor. Perfect for readers ages 8–12, this delightful tale introduces five young witches navigating their way through magic, friendship, and the occasional magical mishap.
Friendship and Magic at Moonshade Academy
When Michelle first steps foot into Moonshade Academy, she’s eager to blend in quietly—definitely not to cast one of the school’s worst-ever spells! But mistakes have a funny way of turning into adventures. Soon, Michelle and four other misfit witches—Rachael, Amanda, Serenity, and Teresa—find themselves tangled up in something far greater than a botched spell. Headmistress Evergreen has a secret: these five unlikely heroes are bound by an ancient prophecy to protect Moonshade Hollow.
Each of the girls has her own unique elemental gift—and her own struggles. The story beautifully captures the genuine insecurities kids face, wrapped in the excitement of magic and mystery. Readers will relate to the characters’ imperfections and cheer as they learn to embrace who they truly are.

Courage Comes from Imperfections
One standout character, Rachael, feels particularly frustrated. No matter how hard she tries, her protection spells never seem to work right. Determined to clear her mind, she wanders into the enchanted forest, only to stumble upon a frightened werewolf pup being chased by a mysterious shadow. In this moment, Rachael realizes that her imperfect magic might just save the day—if she can believe in herself enough to cast it.
Meanwhile, her friends face their own magical challenge. Scooter, a mischievous gnome, traps them in one of his playful puzzles. Working together becomes their only way out—and their best chance to support Rachael. Through clever teamwork and newfound confidence, the girls discover a powerful truth: magic isn’t about perfection. It’s about trusting yourself and those around you.
Whimsical Fun with a Powerful Message
The Imperfect Spell seamlessly blends lighthearted fun with meaningful lessons about teamwork, courage, and self-confidence. Lori’s writing sparkles with warmth and humor, creating a story kids won’t want to put down. Fans of classics like The Worst Witch, or newer hits like Amari and the Night Brothers and The Magic Misfits, will find themselves right at home in Moonshade Hollow.
Throughout their journey, Michelle and her friends remind readers that imperfections aren’t something to fear or hide. Instead, embracing our flaws can lead to the strongest magic of all—true friendship and inner strength. It’s a powerful, comforting message delivered gently yet memorably.

We had the privilege of interviewing the author. Here are excerpts from the interview:
Thank you so much for joining us today! Please introduce yourself and tell us about your role.
Hi! I’m Michelle Lori, a children’s book author with a love for magic, adventure, and stories that help kids discover the power within themselves. I write middle-grade fantasy series like The Charm Keepers of Moonshade Hollow, where five young witches learn that imperfection isn’t weakness—it’s what makes them strong.
Please tell us about your book.
The Charm Keepers of Moonshade Hollow: The Imperfect Spell is the first book in a whimsical fantasy series for readers ages 8 to 12. It follows five young witches—Michelle, Rachael, Amanda, Serenity, and Teresa—who are brought together by Headmistress Evergreen to fulfill an ancient prophecy.
Each witch has a unique elemental gift, but also something more important: a struggle to believe in themselves. In Book 1, when Rachael’s protection spell keeps failing, she runs into the forest—only to find a young werewolf in danger. What follows is a magical adventure filled with glowing symbols, enchanted puzzles, a mischievous gnome named Scooter, and a lesson in teamwork.
As they face magical challenges, the girls begin to understand that real magic isn’t just in spells—it’s in their courage, their friendship, and the power of believing in who they are, even when things go wrong.
Please tell us about your journey.
I’ve loved writing since I was a kid but never really shared my stories. Life kept me busy—raising my son as a single mom, caring for family, and handling day-to-day responsibilities. It wasn’t until the past year that I finally had the chance to focus on writing. Now, with a supportive family and a bit more breathing room, I’m making time for my books—though life with furbabies, gardening, and a busy household still keeps things interesting!
What are the strategies that helped you become successful in your journey?
Pacing myself and staying organized. I learned to write in the small pockets of time life gives me and to keep moving forward, even on busy days. Support from family and friends helps keep me going.
Any message for our readers?
Never be afraid to follow your dreams—no matter how long they’ve been sitting on the shelf. Life gets busy, and it’s easy to put your passions on hold, but it’s never too late to start. And for young readers: remember, you don’t have to be perfect to be powerful—your uniqueness is your magic.
Thank you so much, Michelle, for taking the time to speak with us. We wish you all the best for your journey ahead!
