April Sheris Unveils Little Listener’s Crate: The Ultimate Summer Storytime Experience

A Symphony for Storytime: Little Listener’s Crate

Imagine a warm summer evening, cozying up with your child, a captivating book in hand, and soft melodies drifting in the background. This magical moment is exactly what April Sheris, founder of Upland Studios, envisioned when creating the Little Listener’s Crate—an immersive storytelling experience that pairs enchanting children’s books with meticulously curated soundtracks. Designed to elevate storytime, this limited edition crate offers young readers aged 4–9 a multisensory journey, blending literature with the rhythm of vinyl-inspired ambiance.

Books with a Beat: Stories that Inspire

At the heart of the Little Listener’s Crate lie three carefully selected books, each chosen for their ability to spark imagination, teach valuable life lessons, and foster emotional growth. “Germaine the Beetle,” “A Journey for Felix,” and “A Race to Believe In” all celebrate courage, empathy, curiosity, and self-belief. They offer tales ranging from a beetle dreaming big in the forest, a young boy’s quest for meaning, to adventures rooted in personal growth.

But these aren’t just ordinary reads. Each story is thoughtfully paired with an audio experience designed to amplify emotional connections. Scanning the provided QR card reveals a custom Spotify playlist, where gentle jazz, soothing nature sounds, and charming piano pieces harmonize with the books’ themes. Imagine reading “Germaine the Beetle” with soft forest sounds filling the air, or “A Journey for Felix” accompanied by contemplative melodies, helping young minds reflect deeply as they read. It’s storytime, now perfectly in tune.

Extras that Engage: Crafting Memories

Beyond books and melodies, the Little Listener’s Crate offers delightful extras, turning reading into a memorable event. Each box includes a plush beetle friend—comforting to hold and delightful to imagine as Germaine’s companion. The “Color & Listen” booklet, a printable coloring zine inspired by the vivid scenes from the books, offers young readers another way to engage visually and creatively with the stories.

Also included is the “Reader’s Passport,” an activity card designed to encourage participation and achievement. Children stamp or mark this passport whenever they finish a book, color a scene, complete a playlist, or enjoy storytime with family. It becomes a tangible record of a summer filled with literary adventures—perfect for proud displays and nostalgic revisits.

April Sheris sees these details not merely as additions but integral parts of the storytelling journey. The beautifully crafted, collectible crate packaging further emphasizes this—storytime transformed into an elegant and luxurious ritual, an heirloom experience where books become cherished artifacts and readers become explorers of worlds.

Cultivating Connections: Analog Attention in a Digital Age

In today’s fast-paced digital environment, the Little Listener’s Crate is refreshingly analog, encouraging focused attention, emotional resonance, and a slower, deeper connection to storytelling. April Sheris believes wholeheartedly in the power of analog moments, asserting that music sharpens a child’s focus and enhances their ability to internalize and appreciate narrative nuances.

The crate’s thoughtful pairing of literature and sound invites stillness, patience, and imaginative exploration—qualities often overlooked in a world dominated by screens and digital stimuli. Here, storytelling becomes a mindful practice, one that nurtures empathy, creativity, and open-ended curiosity. It’s more than a box; it’s a poetic soundtrack for a summer filled with meaningful growth and gentle learning.

A Personal Touch from the Heart of Storytelling

April Sheris doesn’t merely publish stories; she crafts immersive literary experiences. Her background as a storyteller—using paper, tea, and sound—infuses every aspect of the Little Listener’s Crate. Under her guidance, Upland Studios has evolved from a publishing house to a storytelling atelier, carefully curating each product to resonate deeply and personally with readers. With this innovative blend of literature, music, and creative engagement, the Little Listener’s Crate doesn’t just aim to educate—it seeks to inspire wonder, joy, and a lifelong love of storytelling. Families who cherish culture, creativity, and connection will find this limited-run crate an irresistible addition to their summer.

As vinyl meets verse, and stories meld with melodies, the Little Listener’s Crate invites children to experience the timeless magic of reading—with a soundtrack perfectly composed for memories worth cherishing.

We had the privilege of interviewing April Sheris. Here are excerpts from the interview.

Hi, It’s great to have you with us today! Please share about yourself with our readers.

My name is April Sheris, and I tell stories for a living—sometimes with paper, sometimes with tea, sometimes with sound. I am the founder of Upland Studios, a publishing house turned storytelling atelier that includes bespoke books, immersive literary experiences, and cultural products like the Little Listener’s Crate. I live at the intersection of luxury and literature, where every story is treated like an heirloom and every reader like a collector of worlds.

Please tell us about Little Listener’s Crate.

Rather than a single book, I’ve published a constellation of voices. But our newest creation—the Little Listener’s Crate—is a lyrical blend of children’s literature and vinyl-inspired ambiance. It includes titles like Germaine the Beetle, A Journey for Felix, and A Race to Believe In, each paired with curated soundtracks and a reading passport for young listeners. It’s a literary mixtape for children—designed to feel like a treasure chest from a poetic childhood.

Please share your journey with our readers.

My journey began in quiet libraries and dusty bookstores, dreaming up lives that didn’t yet exist. I started publishing over a decade ago with a single belief: stories could heal, connect, and elevate. What began as indie publishing grew into a cultural studio—championing underrepresented voices, turning books into experiences, and crafting something so beautiful it felt like a love letter to readers. I’ve walked this path with wonder, resilience, and the belief that the right story always finds its way home.

What are the strategies that helped you become successful in your journey?

Three key ingredients: reverence, rhythm, and risk. I treat storytelling with deep reverence—like jazz or architecture, it must be designed with care. I build rhythm into everything, from how a book is laid out to how a campaign moves through the seasons. And I take risks—I launch what doesn’t exist yet, trusting my intuition more than the market. I also collaborate intentionally—surrounding myself with creators who dream in color and build with heart.

Any message for our readers?

You are the curators of your own narrative. Whether you’re nine or ninety, the books you read, the music you play, the art you collect—they form your personal museum of self. Let it be rich, let it be tender, let it be bold. And never underestimate the power of a well-told story—it might just be the spark that shifts your world.

Thank you so much for giving us your precious time! We wish you all the best for your journey ahead!
