We had the privilege of interviewing the author. Here are excerpts from the interview:

Hi, Please introduce yourself and tell us what you do.

My name is Amya (ah-mee-ya) Miller. I’m a writer based in Seattle, Washington (USA). I write about difficult subjects intentionally. I do so because I believe we’re at a crossroads. Massive differences have emerged in our world: gender, generations, “the norm” and new dos and don’ts that appear out of nowhere. We need to talk!

Please tell us about your book.

My father passed away in October 2023. I didn’t handle it well. I didn’t know how to grieve, and I didn’t know that I didn’t know how to grieve. This book is about my process of learning what grief is, stumbling through it, and where I ultimately came out. I wrote the book that I needed for grief.

Please tell us about your journey.

Persistence. Hard work and dedication. This was extremely personal. I needed to learn how to stop beating myself up. I needed to learn how to be kinder to myself. I needed to come to terms with what was happening around me. I believe in brutal honesty. This book is full of brutal honesty.

What are the strategies that helped you become successful in your journey?

Pain. Loss. Death. Emptiness. All are big and scary and depressing. I faced everything head-on. I dove right into the pain.

Any message for our readers

First, grief hurts. Grief manifests itself in many ways. Cut yourself some slack. This is going to hurt for a while. Maybe forever. Second, everyone grieves in different ways. Find what works for you and go all in. Third, with brutal honesty, I was able to work through my pain. I did this on my own until I found resources. Look for resources. I hope this book is helpful to you.

Thank you so much, Amya, for giving us your precious time! We wish you all the best for your journey ahead!
