Sunlight’s Big Adventure: More Than Just a Chicken Tale

Who would’ve thought a chicken could have such thrilling adventures? Theodore Martin’s delightful book, Sunlight’s Adventure, takes readers far beyond the ordinary coop escapades. Meet Sunlight—a daring, curious hen belonging to Grannie Martin—who refuses to stay put and instead ventures deep into the mysterious forest. And yes, you guessed right: she meets a pack of hungry wolves!

Theodore crafts a heart-pounding tale that sends Sunlight navigating one obstacle after another, cleverly escaping trouble at every turn. Kids will find themselves on an exhilarating journey, counting and cheering as Sunlight works her way back to safety. This isn’t your average barnyard story—it’s a suspenseful ride filled with learning moments and vibrant storytelling.

Numbers, Words, and Adventure: Learning Through Fun

One of the standout qualities of Sunlight’s Adventure is how it cleverly incorporates learning into a gripping narrative. This isn’t a textbook—far from it. Instead, Theodore weaves numbers and new vocabulary naturally into Sunlight’s exciting experiences. Kids absorb valuable knowledge effortlessly while rooting for Sunlight’s safe return.

This combination makes the book ideal for young readers who adore stories packed with thrills, laughter, and surprises. Whether it’s counting down Sunlight’s daring escapes or discovering fresh vocabulary words through the unfolding adventure, the educational value is undeniable. It’s engaging enough to hold kids’ attention and educational enough to satisfy parents and teachers alike.

About the Creative Mind Behind the Tale

The author himself, Theodore Martin, brings authenticity and charm to the story. A primary school student and animal lover, Theodore channels his genuine affection for animals—especially chickens and horses—into every page of this delightful tale. Theodore lives on a farm and spends his days riding his two horses, Rosie and Otto, or playing with his beloved flock of 15 chickens.

Sunlight isn’t just any chicken—she’s Theodore’s favorite, known for her humorous antics and adventurous spirit. During his homeschooling sessions, Theodore observed his feathered friends closely, often laughing at their funny habits and playful behaviors. Inspired by his favorite hen’s quirky personality and relentless curiosity, Theodore created Sunlight’s Adventure as an English project.

Writing the story was just the beginning. Theodore’s mom supported his project by finding an illustrator in the Netherlands and arranging for professional editing. Together, they transformed Theodore’s imaginative tale into a published book available on Amazon, eventually finding its way into school libraries both locally and internationally.

Perfect for Every Occasion: A Gift that Keeps on Giving

Whether you’re looking for the perfect birthday present, Christmas stocking stuffer, or something special for graduation or Easter, Sunlight’s Adventure fits the bill beautifully. It’s more than just another children’s book—it’s an opportunity for young readers to embark on an imaginative, educational journey they’ll remember.

Homeschooling families, in particular, will find Sunlight’s Adventure to be an invaluable resource. It encourages independent reading, vocabulary building, and numeracy skills, all wrapped up in a fun, adventurous package. Kids love it because it’s exciting; parents appreciate it because it cleverly blends entertainment with education.

So, next time you wonder what chickens get up to beyond the safety of their yard, join Sunlight and discover a world filled with excitement, learning, and laughter. After all, there’s nothing quite like cheering for a brave little hen making her way safely back home.

We had the privilege of interviewing the author. Here are excerpts from the interview:

Thank you so much for joining us today! Please introduce yourself and tell us what you do.

My name is Theodore Martin. I’m a primary school student who loves animals, especially chickens and horses. I have two horses, Rosie and Otto, whom I ride at home on the farm and at Pony Club events. I have 15 chickens who are fun to watch. They do funny things and are always discovering new places to scratch and lay eggs. My favourite chickens are the ones that let me pick them up and carry them around as I explore.

Please tell us about your journey.

During our homeschooling time, I spent lots of time with my chickens and loved watching them. They would peck my legs and follow me around. As a project, we had to write and publish a story for English, so I decided to write about my favourite chicken, Sunlight. She was always running around doing silly things and made me laugh a lot. So I wrote a story about all the adventures she got up to. My mum then found someone to edit the story and draw illustrations for the book so we could publish it on Amazon.

What are the strategies that helped you become successful in your journey?

My teacher helped me by asking me to tell her the story and recording it. Then we listened to the recording, and I wrote down the story. She said it was very important to edit the story, so we did lots of editing in class, and I drew pictures for the story. I had to stay focused and keep working on my story so I could read it to the class at the end of the project.  Sometimes I didn’t want to do the work, but my mum and my teacher kept me motivated, and I’m glad that I finished the story. My mum then helped me publish it on Amazon, and now it’s in my school library and in some libraries in the Netherlands (where the illustrator lives).

Any message for our readers

If you love animals and especially chickens, then please enjoy my story. Chickens are fun, and did you know they have a tongue!

Thank you so much, Theodore, for giving us your precious time! We wish you all the best for your journey ahead!
