The show revolves around the talented school dropout, Mike Ross, who illegally engages in writing the Law School Admission tests for other students in a bid to care for his grandmother.
While on his way to deliver a case of marijuana for his best friend Trevor, he accidentally ran into a job interview with Harvey Specter, a respectable lawyer highly regarded as the city’s best closer. He impresses Harvey and gets the associate position without being a licensed legal practitioner. They both work together on many cases, successfully closing cases while keeping Mike’s fraudulent practice a secret.
The series also features Rick Hoffman, portraying Louis Marlowe Litt, who previously harbored ill feelings for Specter but later became best friends. Meghan Markle as Rachel Zane, the daughter of Robert Zane, one of the best lawyers in the city and an associate at Pearson Specter Litt who became Mike Ross’s wife in the season 7 finale. Gina Torres portrayed Jessica Lourdes Pearson, a cofounder of Pearson Hardman, who discovered that Mike Ross was an unlicensed legal practitioner but could do nothing about her findings. Sarah Rafferty as Donna Paulsen, Specter’s former Secretary and confidante whom he begins dating and marries in the season 9 finale.
Aaron Korsh wrote the premiere of the series, while David Bartis and Gene Klein were the executive producers. After altering the script from half-hour to hour-long episodes, Korsh and his agents approached several productions. Finally, they got Hypnotic Films and Television to sign the project, then pitched the script to USA Network, who bought the series after the pitch. The production subsequently renewed the show for the ninth and final season on January 23, 2019, and debuted it on July 17, 2019. It featured most of the starring cast members trying the knot, Specter, and Donna moving to Seattle to live close to Mike and Rachel, who had initially moved.
The location for the series happened in New York City and Toronto at Downside Park Studios, where they built an imaginary New York City law office portrayed in the pilot.
On the review aggregator website, Rotten Tomatoes, the show got an outstanding rating of 91% with the season 3 readings. On Metacritic, it averaged 65/100 based on 29 critics’ reviews, showing favorable reviews. The series also garnered several nominations, including Screen Actors Guild Awards, ALMA Awards, Imagen Foundation Awards, People’s Choice Awards, and NAACP Awards, and won several awards.
May 1, 2019, saw the production premiere a spin-off Pearson after talks in early 2017 about the spin-off.
