From experiencing postpartum depression to creating Glam Girl Beauty brand. Here is the story of Founder Sahar MacLachlan.

Today, we have the pleasure of interviewing Sahar MacLachlan, CEO and Founder of Glam Girl Beauty.

Hi Sahar, Great to have you with us today! Please share your journey with us and what inspired you to start ‘Glam Girl Beauty?’

Approximately 15% of all women will experience postpartum depression following the birth of a child. Up to 10% will experience depression or anxiety during pregnancy (PPSI, 2021) Glam Girl was founded by (me), a first-time mother who discovered that after having children, I no longer made time for myself. I began to lose myself in the tiring yet rewarding role of motherhood and almost forgot who I was. My battle with severe Post-Partum Depression, OCD, and Anxiety led me on a journey into a very dark place. After almost one lonely and debilitating year in the dark and almost on to the path of suicide attempt, I finally sought help to turn things around. I came to the decision that I wanted to do something for myself and vowed to create a brand that heavily focused on self-care and self-love. I vowed to build a community where women supported women in positive and uplifting ways. I vowed to donate and help new mothers going through such a vulnerable time in their life. From a tiny glimmer of hope, inspiration, and a life-long dream, Glam Girl was born. It brought me back to life, and I began to feel like myself again. A portion of our proceeds is donated to Post Partum Support International, dedicated to supporting families suffering from postpartum depression, anxiety, and distress.

What are the strategies that helped you become successful in your journey?

Firstly, asking for help. I kept my mental health issues to myself for almost a year. I suffered in silence and didn’t tell a single soul. It’s hard when you’re in deep because you start feeling like it is normal life when it’s not. I was lucky that I had my husband tell me that he hadn’t seen me’ smile in months.’ This really knocked me off my feet and made me realize that something wasn’t right. Once I got on the right track to being healthy, I was able to think straight and prioritize my life and what I wanted to accomplish.
