Rendezvous with Kim Baschet, a Lead Designer specializing in Digital Design, Interfaces, and Motion UI.

Today, we have the pleasure of interviewing Kim Baschet, a Lead Designer specializing in Digital Design, Interfaces, and Motion UI.

Please tell us about your journey.

I grew up in France and lived in San Francisco for a time. I’ve worked for agencies (TBWA, Instrument, Upperquad), design studios, and brands. I am now an independent artist. For the past 6 years, I have worked for renowned clients such as Google, GE, Warner Bros, Le Monde, The Fine Art Museums of San Francisco, and others. For these brands, I’ve been lucky enough to create interactive experiences viewed by millions of users worldwide. For example, in the project Google Santa Tracker, a holiday-themed website with illustrations and games, I played a leading role from conception to production. I also contribute consistently to the design world by mentoring and being an active design community member. This past year, I have been nominated as a jury for 3 international design awards: Awwwards, the Webbys, and CSS Design Awards. I really enjoy taking an active role in the design community.

Please tell us about what it is that you do.

My craft is focused on everything digital. Depending on the project, I alternate between different formats: website experience, augmented reality, installation, video, 3D… As long as it’s on a screen! I create delightful designs that engage the users. Besides that, the purpose of my work is to reflect and elevate the brands that commissioned me. I help them meet and grow their audience.

What are the strategies that helped you become successful in your journey?

I always conceive my design while thinking about the union of transitions, motion, and micro-interactions. Being detail-oriented and creating a consistent system is the best way to create flawless designs. For inspiration, I find ideas in every medium (architecture, movies, illustrations, paintings…). In my work, it’s very important to stay aware of new technologies and team-up with creative developers to stay innovative. Collaboration with other artists is so important!
