Today, we have the pleasure of interviewing Author Jamie Alkire. She writes and self-publishes children’s and young adults’ books, primarily on Amazon. She already has published several titles. Titles include, but are not limited to, An Easter Story, A Christmas Story, A Halloween Story, Peanut Butter and Jelly, and more.
She will be launching a new series of short horror storybooks called Tremblers in March.
Please tell us about your journey.
I have known I had a talent for writing since I was in middle school. For an assignment, they had us write and read our stories to third graders, and mine happened to be a Christmas story. Someday I will rewrite it and publish it, so that is something to check for around the Holidays.
Please tell us about your books.
I started out wanting to write books for the holidays then. I’ve always wanted to do horror stories and provoke fear in the readers’ hearts. Even my Christmas story turned out to be nice overall.
What are the strategies that helped you become successful in your journey?
It has been a long journey, from being shy about publishing my first book to announcing everybody that I have published my books. It has been very nerve-racking, but each day I have developed more confidence and reached out to other writers and self-publishers who have helped me with my journey. My first goal was to self-publish and get some books on audio. Well, I was able to publish most of my stories I wrote and get all of them on audio so far. My goals moving forward are to write more books in the series Tremblers, convert them to audio, and start saving money to get ISBNs. They aren’t cheap, but I feel it will open my books up to more readers. So far, I’m doing everything on my own; writing, editing, and self-publishing. I did outsource the audiobooks, and Luana Maranz did an amazing job narrating them. I’m very happy to have worked with her, and I plan to continue working with her in the future.
Any message for our readers.
Read as much and as often as possible. If you don’t know a word, then write it down and look it up in a dictionary later or do it right before moving onto another sentence. That’s the best way to learn new words.
