Stressed because of Parenting?Take a mental break with Podcaster Rebecca Wobecca in her Podcast Parenting Aaah!

Today, we are interviewing Rebecca Wobecca, parent and educator. She hosts the podcast Parenting Aaah!, that takes a down to earth, funny perspective on parenting, and provides support on common issues parents face. She has a broad wealth of experience in educating children and working with parents. However, her experience as a working mom of three children is her most powerful source of knowledge.

Please tell us something about yourself.

First and foremost, I am a parent of 3 children ages 4, 5, and 12 years old. My life experience is formed by a love of travel and experiencing different cultures. I have lived in 5 countries and have taught in England and the US. I also enjoy painting and singing.

How did you get into what you do right now? Please tell us more about your journey?

Rebecca-Wobecca

I have been an educator for 15 years for a broad span of ages and ability levels. Students have been ages 3 years – 20, and I have worked in special education and regular education. My master’s degree is specifically in special education. That foundation really helps to understand a lot of behavior and learning processes in all people, not only children labeled “special needs.” We all have particular needs and tendencies, even if we do not fit a diagnosis. I have always been fascinated in the field of psychology and still study it as much as I can.

What inspires you?

My inspiration is; first, I have struggled in the past 12 years as a parent. Balancing work with raising a child is just the beginning of the challenge. There are also relationship issues, putting aside one’s personal interests, finances, helping your children to develop behaviorally, academically, physically, the list goes on and on. Basically, I realized how hard it was for me even while I do have some resources to help. Additionally, I have the experience of teaching children and learning techniques for learning and behavior management. I thought if this is so hard for me, how hard is it for others? My own struggles made me really want to reach out to other parents and children and basically share my experiences in hopes that it may help them. If I cannot help them directly, at least my outreach can be an emotional boost or, hopefully, make them laugh. Sometimes laughing is the only way to get through a difficult day.

Please tell us about your podcast Parenting Aaah!

Although I still work in education full-time, I have felt the undeniable urge to connect and support children and their parents for the past few years. One simple way to begin that connection is through sharing knowledge and experience. I am now doing that through a podcast called Parenting Aaah! I wish to develop an online community of families and eventually expand into other media while supporting parents in the challenging process of raising children. I have always been a creative person and used to be a painter, but I can’t find the time to paint. The podcast is a great way to allow the performer side of me to have fun.

What’s your most memorable experience?

Rebecca-Wobecca

One fun thing about being a parent is the unexpected funny things that kids do. Recently, I took my 3 daughters to a local playground. There is a raised plastic tunnel that kids can crawl through, and it has holes to look out of. I was waiting for them to come out, and I looked over and saw that 6 feet sticking out of the look-out holes of the tunnel. It looked really funny, so I took a picture. Kids surprise you with their creativity and spontaneity all the time.

The website is parentingaaah.libsyn.com. What I enjoy about social media is that it enables me to share both thoughtful and funny ideas in the same place.

Looking back, what’s one thing you wish you understood better before you ever got started?

Rebecca-Wobecca

My 2 biggest challenges currently are one, TIME – it is very difficult to find time to work on a project aside from raising my children and working full-time. However, I am passionate about reaching out to parents who are struggling, so it is well worth the time and effort.

Second, TECHNOLOGY- I have recently realized that my knowledge of current technology and social media are basic. When I think a small task, such as linking a social media account, is going to take 10 mins and it ends up taking 2 hours, it is SO frustrating.

What keeps you going when things get tough?

When stress or difficulties get me down, I am inspired by the wisdom, patience, and kindness of my mother. She always is able to look at the bright side of a situation and remind me to focus on what really matters. What really matters is family and healthy relationships- that is what endures a lifetime.
