Today, we have the pleasure of interviewing Valentin Podkamennyi, Co-Founder and CTO at Datamart Inc.
Hi, Great to have you with us today! Please tell us more about your journey.
I have been working as a software engineer since 1999. Over these years, I have worked on over 500 projects for various markets and industries such as Analytics, Automotive, Banking, Entertainment, Government, Health Care, Marketing, Multimedia, Publishing, and Real Estate for small startups as well as for well-established companies from Fortune 500.
Over the past 20 years, I have worked for many companies. But most exciting was with Google. I’ve been working in the Google Analytics team for about four years in Mountain View (California).
In 2011, we (me and my friend Oleksandr Krayilo) started our own company called Datamart.
Please tell us more about Datamart Inc.
Datamart is a global full-service software development company that offers technical consulting, software engineering, and staff augmentation services. Headquartered in California with business representatives in Europe and a development center in Ukraine, Datamart provides cutting-edge technologies for optimal cost-to-value ratio.
We also do several free and open-source projects, and one of them is Komito Analytics.
Komito Analytics is a free, open-source enhancement for the most popular web analytics software. It unlocks the power of digital analytics with additional insights into visitor’s behavior.
Please tell us about your experience of working with Google and then starting a company of your own?
We started our company in parallel when we both worked for Google as contractors. One of the main reasons was people in California, who asked us to help them find good contractors. So, we started with hiring the first four people for our first client. And over the years at Google, we wanted to build a similar culture, approaches, and atmosphere in our small company.
What are the strategies that helped you become successful in your journey?
People are the best and important assets themselves. Almost all of our clients come from the close network, by reference from other clients, as well as from the past Google colleagues, who started their own companies or moved to another company to executive positions and so on. And we started with a similar approach with hiring – friends and past colleagues come first.
So, people are the most important strategy.
