The demand for American Diamonds is huge – says Sourish Mukherjee, Founder of CZ Glam!

Today, we have the pleasure of interviewing Sourish Mukherjee, Founder of CZ Glam, Manufacturers and Exporters of Cubic Zirconia (CZ) Jewelry.

Hi, Please tell us about what it is that you do.

I am from the eastern part of India from the state of West Bengal. We are a manufacturer and wholesale exporter of cubic zirconia jewelry, also known as American diamond jewelry, and 925 sterling silver jewelry. These are all handcrafted jewelry, as you can see in the pictures and videos and the stones that we are using are 5A (AAAAA) grade star cut CZ (Cubic Zirconia) stone. These stones are lab-created semi-precious stones which are the replica of real diamonds. You can know more in detail here:

Please tell us more about your journey.

We started our journey back in 2003. Actually, my brother in law Mr. Diptiman Chatterjee, started the journey all by himself back in 2003 when we were just dealing in everything like Polki, Kundan, and Oxidised jewelry. Then in 2005, we started manufacturing American diamond jewelry with only 3 craftsmen. We had no idea where or how to sell those pieces of jewelry. And now CZ Glam is one of the largest manufacturers having the biggest stock of American diamond and 925 sterling silver jewelry in the whole world. As of now, we are exporting our products to 39 countries and catering to 24 international brands with more than 5000 retail chain owners. The journey started with 3 craftsmen in a small building, and now we have 650 craftsmen in our 5 units. It was a long and hard journey, but it is a memorable one. 

 

Who is your role model, and what inspires you?

My brother-in-law, Mr. Diptiman Chatterjee, is my role model. I look up to him. His struggles and success inspire me.

 

What is CZ or AD jewelry?

CZ or Cubic Zirconia Jewellery is also known as American Diamond or AD Jewelry in India, is a type of Imitation Jewellery made with Lab Created gemstones called Cubic Zirconia. Both CZ and AD or American Diamonds are the same. Kindly note that these are not real ‘Zircons’ which are mined gemstones.

Cubic Zirconia crystals are made by melting powdered zirconium and zirconium dioxide and heating them up to 4,982ºF. It is technically Zirconium Oxide and is made in crystalline form for use in Jewellery.

Both CZ and AD or American Diamonds are the same. Kindly note that these are not ‘Zircons’ which are mined gemstones.

While white color AD / CZ is the most abundantly used, Green (which are made to look like Emerald) and Red (which are made to look like Ruby) are also very common. Other colors include Blue, Black, and Champagne, etc. While White is crystal clear, Green and Red CZ stones are manufactured in a slightly translucent form to give them the look of real Emeralds and Rubies (which are seldom available with full clarity).

These stones are hard and much superior to other ‘glass’ stones used in other forms of Imitation Jewellery. They can withstand the tough heating conditions, which are necessary for the manufacturing process of AD / CZ Jewellery. They are made to bear the heat of 750 degrees Celsius without affecting the stone’s shine and luster.

Even Swarovski crystals are Cubic Zirconia stones, but the cut and polish of Swarovski stones are superior to normal CZ Stones commonly used by Manufacturers.
