Hi, please tell us about your journey.
From the “pjs” (projects) to publications! From fights and felonies to diplomas and developing businesses. A true inspiration to myself and my community; a walking result of prayers and a group of elders, mentors, friends, and family – that reminded me to see the impossible and dream. I grew up the oldest of 3 in a single-family home. From High School, I found myself a victim to what I now understand as the system. The divorce of my parents was tough. I became a felon at 16. After Graduating High School, I got a job like anyone else in town and just lived. Comedy was a part of me then in conversations with friends; I just never understood that what came naturally was actually my superpower. After a 3 year layoff, an opportunity enabled me with the privilege to attended WSSU. Upon graduation, I found my way to my still current profession of morning radio. During the last decade, I’ve traveled the country doing stand-up comedy, made national television, and have had my own morning show the last 7 years. I have even formed a non-profit and participate for free in many community events and enrichment programs. I am an HBCU advocate and a believer in inspiring young men and African American youth.
What are the strategies that helped you become successful in your journey?
Transparency and my fans and audience. It is not a strategy but the love of the fans and community. My audience has grown with me organically. I’ve also been good at reinventing myself: B Daht, B Daht Bin David, B Daht Obama, B Daht TV. Constantly pushing out content that relates to my demographics (60-40 black women) IDKMYDE, MAFA, Speed Dahting, CTD’s, etc.
B Daht TV is an artist – A soon to be a household name.
