An interaction with Jacky Lim, Executive Financial Consultant with Prudential Singapore!

Today, we have the pleasure of interviewing Jacky Lim, an Executive Financial Consultant with Prudential Singapore.

Please tell us about yourself and what it is that you do.

I will be promoted to be a Master Financial Consultant, the highest rank for a consultant next year in April. I meet people from different walks of life and help them with Holistic Financial Planning. This means ensuring that they are properly and adequately covered in Medical, Global Life Insurance and ensuring that they don’t miss potential blind spots. I also assist in wealth accumulation through insurance savings options and investment policies. I also specialize in Retirement Planning to ensure my clients get a good overview of their CPF and how they can use both their CPF and also annuities plans offered by Prudential to help them achieve the lifestyle they want during their retirement.

I pride myself on being a non-pushy and holistic planner with no hard-selling techniques. Singapore’s insurance industry has a stigma, as many black sheep use marketing gimmicks and hard-selling techniques to get sales. This resulted in many misrepresentations of products, miss-selling, and many clients who only learned they lost money or had a bad deal due to Insufficient information presented to them.

I also hold a PruService Mark representing my high level of service to my clients. I review their portfolio with them every 6 months to a year to ensure their portfolio is constantly in line with their goals, and also if they have any new life stages, I’ll be there to advise them. My clients appreciate both the expertise and also the relationship and friendship built over the years.

I am also an associate estate planner and help with estate planning, which is an important segment many in Singapore miss out on.

Can you please tell us more about your journey?

Before the job, I was studying veterinary at Temasek Polytechnic. I graduated with a diploma before serving 1 year and 10 months of National Service with the Singapore Police Force (SPF). I was at crossroads regarding the career for my future. I could pursue a vet degree, choose to be an active police officer, or explore other careers. I took a leap of faith and joined Prudential as a consultant, and I never looked back.

What are the strategies that helped you become successful in your journey?

I started young, and my peers were all studying university and didn’t had any income to plan with. I worked by standing on the streets and asking people to help with surveys and get to know them. As Singapore had a good influx of foreign talents, I built my market quickly by being able to provide the clients in front of me with what they needed most. I was able to ask accurate questions to help them explore and identify areas they had overlooked or missed out, and they were glad I was able to provide the solutions.
