He is based in New Jersey and adores spending time with his family. Allen began SthenoType to get out stories into the world, including his own stories and those of other people. Hi Michael, Great to have you with us today! Please share with our readers about yourself.
Hi, I live in New Jersey, work in management, and decided it was finally time to get some of the stories I’ve had floating in my head out in case anyone else might like to hear them.
Please tell us about your book, The Forgotten God.
The Forgotten God tells the stories of a few characters. Ava is a teenage girl who stumbles upon a buried altar to an unknown god and experiences some notoriety and personal growth after she reveals it on social media. Morgan and a friend chase the same social clout, and their misadventures lead to her own life being altered. Forseti, our forgotten Norse god, awakes to a world that doesn’t resemble anything he knows, and he has to piece together what has happened and how to move forward.
Please share with our readers about your journey.
I’ve always loved fantasy and sci-fi stories. We had kids young, and I spent years climbing the corporate ladder, which took me away from being able to indulge as much. Now that life has settled in; I’ve been able to play tabletop games, write stories, and read all I’ve been missing. I’ve also realized that many of my friends have similar ambitions and looking for an outlet, which is why I started SthenoType, a publisher, to help get those stories out as well.
What are the strategies that helped you become successful in your journey?
Forcing myself to be unaware of my own shortfalls. If I had listened every time, I wondered if anyone would enjoy it, if the story made sense, if the characters were compelling, or if any other imposter syndrome thoughts made their way in, I’d never have gotten here. My strategy was to just write; if it’s no good, it doesn’t have to ever see the page, but keep writing and get the first draft down, then work it from there.
