We had the pleasure of interviewing Ashley Jones, Author of book series, Sebastian the Cyber Crime Crusader.
Ashley is a seasoned security professional in the Financial Services industry, currently serving as a Vice President and Business Information Security Officer. She excels as a leader, known for her extensive knowledge and experience in Global Security and Cyber Risk Management.

Hi Ashley, Great to have you with us today! Please share with our readers about yourself.
Hello, it is an absolute pleasure to be here! I am a Business Information Security Officer in the Financial Services sector and a Doctoral Candidate in Cybersecurity. Cyber Risk Management and Global security is my passion, and I enjoy teaching the next generation about security and inspiring future cybersecurity experts.
Please tell us about your book series.
I’m excited to share my children’s book series “Sebastian, the Cyber Crusader: A Dachshund’s Tale of Fighting Cybercrime.” I created this series to introduce cybersecurity concepts to children in a fun and engaging manner. The story follows the adventures of Sebastian, a curious and courageous long-haired dachshund, as he discovers his talent for thwarting cybercriminals. It’s a fantastic blend of adventure, learning, and encouragement for young readers to understand and appreciate the importance of cybersecurity.

My journey began in Long Island, NY, and eventually led me to the heart of the financial industry in Chicago. With an insatiable interest in technology and security, I pursued advanced degrees in Cyber Risk Management, Physical Security Risk Management, and International Business. As I honed my skills and knowledge, I realized I had a passion for learning, teaching, and giving back. To make cybersecurity more accessible to everyone, I became an author, using a story-telling approach to help children grasp the concept of cybersecurity. My journey is a testament to the idea that dedication, continuous learning, and a desire to make a difference can open paths to enriching experiences.
What are the strategies that helped you become successful in your journey?
One of my main strategies has been constantly learning. Staying updated with the latest advancements is crucial in a field that evolves as rapidly as cybersecurity.
Secondly, effective communication has been vital. Whether presenting complex cyber risks to top executives or explaining cybersecurity concepts to young minds, the ability to convey information clearly and persuasively is critical.
Finally, mentorship has played a significant role in my success. I’ve been fortunate to have exceptional mentors throughout my career, and I strive to provide others with the same support and guidance. Believing in the power of giving back, I actively engage in mentorship programs and initiatives to help future security professionals grow in their careers.
These strategies, a healthy work-life balance, and unwavering passion for my field have been instrumental in my journey.

Absolutely! I want to encourage you to remember that no goal is unattainable if you approach it with passion, tenacity, and a willingness to learn.
