Today, we have the pleasure of Interviewing Jim Burruss, Author of The Seventh Trumpet Has Sounded. Here are the excerpts from the Interview:

Hi Jim, Please introduce yourself and tell us about what it is that you do.

After “retiring” from over 30 years in public education, I was a real estate agent for another twelve years. Throughout the past fifty years, I regularly taught Bible classes to all ages, including adults. After teaching from the book of Revelation twice during the last fifteen years, I was encouraged to share my extensive study. I believe Revelation is the most motivational book in the Bible— And I hope this commentary will help in your own personal studies. My constant emphasis is to “pay attention to every word” in your study of the Bible and “discover for yourself.”

What are your views about the book of Revelation?

I contend that the book of Revelation has been, and continues to be, one of the least studied books of the Bible. Yet, more has been spoken about and passed on to others about this book, without actual study, than many other parts of God’s word. Therefore, most people (and I do mean most) only “know” what someone else has told them about Revelation…and not the result of a personal study. Although the apostle Paul tells each of us in 2 Timothy 2:15, “Be diligent to present yourself approved to God as a workman who does not need to be ashamed, accurately handling the word of truth” (NASB). I am suggesting that each person must study the Bible for him/herself, paying attention to every word and not allowing “speculation” to enter our thinking. So, my emphasis in this commentary is to read from the Bible for yourself, study for yourself, pay attention to every word, maintain the context and don’t forget or ignore what you already have learned from study…of the Bible. And, disregard for the most part what is commonly “taught” regarding Revelation; keep your mind open.

Please tell us about your book, “The Seventh Trumpet Has Sounded.”

I have entitled the commentary “The Seventh Trumpet Has Sounded,” and share some conclusions that hopefully will pique your interest and possibly cause you to reconsider what you may have “understood” in the past. Some of those subjects are Armageddon, the 1000-year reign of Christ, the powers of the devil, the 144,000, the identity of “666”, and the “last days”. Many of the conclusions are in direct conflict with what is commonly taught by various religious denominations.

Excerpt from the Dedication page of my book to give insight on how I finally completed this commentary:

About five years ago, we discovered that my wonderful wife, Marie, began to develop dementia, which progressed quite rapidly. It was diagnosed as Lewy Body Dementia, which has a Parkinsonian aspect to it. The primary reason to mention this is that, in a sense, it is the reason I have been able and more determined to complete the commentary. Her condition ultimately required constant caregiver help (which I decided was best to do at home because I wanted her treated well every moment, which couldn’t possibly be done in the very best care facility. I wanted this type of care because I loved her, and she deserved this quality of care).

Her situation with the disease caused me to think even more clearly about my life and the blessings I have had…and a major reason for the blessings was her! Her condition made me reflect on my life more than ever before. That reflection made me a better person in so many ways (I think).

In a sense, it seemed that what happened in this situation had a serendipitous secondary effect. The motivations within the book of Revelation took on added personal application for me. Jesus’ encouragement to “overcome” helped me learn to be more patient and complete the journey. And, of course, a Scripture is most likely to be most helpful to all of us when we witness and experience pain, suffering, and even death, there is great consolation in “He will wipe away every tear from their eyes, and there will no longer be any death; there will no longer be any mourning, or crying, or pain.” (Rev. 21:4)

The situation also gave me time in the early mornings to “work on the commentary” before the caregiver arrived. Marie’s regular afternoon naps gave me a little extra time also. I used those times to try to organize my Revelation materials, tweak various parts, run the documents through computer programs for grammar and plagiarism, etc.

Finally, during the last few years, I realized more than ever before that Marie, my loving wife of almost 55 years, had always been, as in the Bette Midler song, “the wind beneath my wings.” I regret I didn’t realize it many years earlier. So I dedicate this book to her.

Thank you so much, Jim, for giving us your precious time!
