Today, we have the pleasure of interviewing Brittany Ziegler, Author of four-part book series Make Me Exist.
She was born in California and currently resides on the beautiful island of Maui in Hawaii. She studied marine sciences and biology at the University of Hawaii, as well as dabbled in creative writing and photography.
Hi Brittany, Great to have you with us today! Please tell us about what it is that you do.
Aloha, I’m a mother of two girls, author of impossible and fantastic fantasy novels, underwater photographer, best friends with humpback whales, and shark whisperer.
Please tell us more about your journey.
I’ve always been an avid writer but dabbled mostly in poetry. When Covid hit a couple of years ago, I was in the process of getting my marine biology at the University of Hawaii. To compensate for all the math and science courses, I was taking. I had a single creative writing class. That one class and the right timing gave me all I needed to write my first science-fiction/fantasy novel.
Please tell us about your book, Make Me Exist: A Heart-Pounding Sci-Fi Romance (Lost in Time Book 1).
This would be my first novel in a four-part series, Make Me Exist. I wanted to create a unique romantic storyline with lots of twists, action, fighting, and a strong female lead, but also keep it poetic. I decided on aliens because you can’t have good sci-fi without aliens. There’s a twist, though. These aliens are actually a race that created Humans and is so genetically similar. You wouldn’t be able to visibly see a difference from a Jatorrian to a Human.
Our protagonist, Cyran, is one of the last pure-blooded female Jatorrians- and throughout the first novel, she is discovering herself, fighting for her family and evading the bounty hunters who are after her. It’s action-packed, steamy, and different from anything you’ve ever read.
What are the strategies that helped you become successful in your journey?
As an author, I thrive in chaos. I’m always writing with a hoard of kids running around the house or finishing up a scene just before going out on a kayaking adventure at 5 am. It’s madness here, but it’s successful madness.
