Today, we have the pleasure of interviewing JJ Young, a Hip-Hop Artist from Columbus, Ohio.
Please tell us about what it is that you do.
I am in the military, and I rap about my life.
Can you please tell us more about your journey?
I got into music at a young age and was interested in instruments at first. (Guitar, drums, etc.) But as a teenager, I had some friends pass away at a young age & I began to write my emotions down & began recording them. Music became an outlet for me. My faith in God carried me through the worst times in my life, & music was always there.
Please tell us about your music.
My music is very personal to me. I do not usually write entertaining music or happy music. What I connect with the most is when I’m putting the dark stuff on display. That is when my lyrical capability shines.
What are the strategies that helped you become successful in your journey?
I became more successful as I stopped worrying about what others think. Being deployed for a year and away from home made me realize how much I took for granted. I made a promise to myself one night in the desert that I was going to pursue this with everything I have.
