Today, we have the pleasure of interviewing Cristina Ji Hu.
Cristina Ji Hu is the artist behind millions of views gathered on main social networks. Using art as her way of self-expression and as the voice for silenced conflicts through strong visual messages rising awareness about topics such as Anti-Asian Racism or Stop Asian Hate, her artwork and effort have been recognized worldwide by brands and celebrities.
Hi, Great to have you with us today! Please tell us about what it is that you do.
I’m an 18 years old Chinese artist based in Spain under the pseudonym of Sunfwer. Currently, a student that enjoys creating content such as videos and publishing digital art on social networks such as Instagram.
Please tell us more about your journey.
I’ve always liked art since I was a child. I started taking it seriously at the age of 12 but never thought of making it my career. It’s been a rough path since, as my head says, study x thing, but my heart would always say study art. I ended up in a huge art block at the age of 15 that made me reconsider everything. I was at the edge of quitting and study something health science-related and forget about art completely, but I’m really fortunate to have a mother that has constantly been supportive of this path and my decisions to where I am nowadays.
My biggest mistake and obstacle I’ve had so far is probably getting scammed by an agency that did the paperwork for me to study abroad, and I ended up studying something that I don’t enjoy in university and wasting a whole year of my life.
A year ago, a friend suggested opening an art account on Instagram to keep my work saved as a gallery for myself. Still, I did not expect it to blow this hard, gathering hundreds of thousands of supporters.
I am really grateful. This has opened new opportunities for my career and myself. I have many projects planned in the future and aim to continue creating content and artworks.
What are the strategies that helped you become successful in your journey?
I frankly don’t know how all this happened or even if I am successful enough to respond to this question. But if I had to say at least one thing as a digital creator, I would say always stay humble because you’re no one without your supporters.

Creative careers are rough paths, full of ups and downs, but at the end of the day, if you’re really passionate about it, it’s all worth it.
