The Texas Musician Codyne Thornton steals the breath away with his enchanting artistry

Today, we are interviewing Codyne Thornton, an independent artist, Producer, Engineer, and Graphic designer for his label “STAYWOKEMEDIA”.

Please tell us something about yourself.

My music is a unique take on Phonk, Texas Screwed up, and Memphis classic rap.

How did you get into what you do right now? Please tell us more about your journey?

I started rapping at the age of 16. I first started recording when I was introduced to another artist by the name of Crucified. Since then, I have released 2 albums and multiple mixtapes. I’ve worked with D. J. Paul of 36 Mafia, Twisted Insane, Kung-fu vampire, and Team Sesh member Eddy Baker. I am currently working on my 3rd digital release.

Who are your role models?

My biggest influence is Lord infamous of 36 Mafia.

What inspires you?

I listened to all types of music, growing up, a lot of music from the 1950s and 1960s. DJ Screw and the S. U. C., Zro, S. P. M., and many Texas artists really showed me that I can do this music thing.

Almost everything I record is freestyle, so it is never inspired by the same thing. I like to fall into a trance and wake up when the beats are over.

Please tell us about what you do.

I am an independent artist, producer, engineer, and graphic designer for my label “STAYWOKEMEDIA”. I do everything myself and enjoy doing it.

I would say the biggest thing to happen in my career was recently getting the honor of working with D. J. Paul OF 36 Mafia. He and 36 had a huge impact on me and my music.

Which social media channels work best for promoting your work?

I use YouTube and Twitter, mostly to promote my brand. It’s hard to really say what site will be more beneficial due to the fact that sites and trends change overnight.

What’s your greatest fear?

My greatest fear is my music won’t be heard. I don’t care if I go anonymous as long as my music is recognized.

Looking back, what’s one thing you wish you understood better before you ever got started?

Looking back, I have a much greater understanding of music and art than I used to have. I have learned so much in this past year alone that has helped my career.

What keeps you going when things get tough?

What keeps me going is my love for music. It’s an obsession of mine since I was a kid.

Any message for our readers.

My biggest piece of advice to anyone in my shoes is to not take a break from your work. When I’m not recording, I’m making phone calls and emails to anybody that I can network with. Work with other artists who have similar goals and connections to popular platforms.

How can people connect with you?

My genre is impossible to label with one word. I have made everything from alternative rock to jazz.

Please give my music a listen and feel free to share your thoughts.
