His music is a reflection of his mood… Meet Birthpush, Musician and Producer from Kansas, USA!!

Today, we have the pleasure of interviewing Birthpush, a Musician, Producer, and Mix/Master Engineer based in Kansas City, USA.

Hi, Please tell us about what it is that you do.

I’m a full-time producer and mix/master, whether it’s my own stuff or somebody else’s. I work with artists across the country, and with my own stuff, I record it at my own little home studio at the apartment where my girlfriend and I live with our dog. 

Can you please tell us more about your journey? Where are you from? Where’s your inspiration from? 

I’m from Baltimore, Maryland. I recently moved out to the Midwest and settled down. Still, within just the last year, I lived between Florida, Maryland, South Carolina, and now Kansas. My inspiration used to really be rooted in the music I liked: old punk, 90s grunge, and metal and prog. I got more into the pop lane in college when I began working with other artists. But lately, my inspiration has come from how I feel and what I’m thinking and doing. The music is just a catharsis. If I’m feeling good, the music does too. That’s as deep as it goes. 

Please tell us about your music in detail. 

 

 

I used to write a lot of poetic, double entendre-y, political kind of lyrics when I was in a prog-rock band, and don’t get me wrong—I love prog rock. It has its place like everything else; it just feels good to write whatever I’m feeling. And if there’s nothing eating at me or making me super happy, I don’t need to write a song. I don’t know my genre. I don’t know my niche or place. I just make what I make, and you can bet you won’t catch me writing empty lyrics. I can get down with a crowd-pleaser shout song, and if I make one, it’ll just be a reflection of my mood when I made it. I really can’t say that my music is anything more than that. A reflection. 

What are the strategies that helped you become successful in your journey?

I think it’s important to redefine “success.” It’s fine to want gold chains and women or a thousand screaming fans in front of you, and if that’s your vision, be sure to keep it in the back of your head. It’s balancing those occasional hype feelings of success or excitement with the colder reality. Take little wins, be realistic, and try to stay out of slumps when you feel like you’re wasting your time. Grind, but don’t burn out. It’s all just balance. For me, it was easier to loosen up and make some real heartfelt music when I told myself, “Nobody’s ever gonna listen to this, for real.” Once you shake the fantasy, it just gets more chill.
