Today, we have the pleasure of interviewing Dylan Meyer, a.k.a. DkMTkM.
Hi, please tell us about yourself.
I am from Conway, South Carolina. I am happy to say I now have moved back to that area and love the people there. I feel very lucky to have grown up around such a great area with good people.
Please tell us more about your journey.
After I attended Coastal Carolina University (ten years I’m not a doctor), I went to Philadelphia to work with my degree. I was a Regional Business Director for the 3rd largest fitness provider. It was a high-driven sales environment and very corporate environment. There was a lot of travel to New York for meetings and trainings. Rollouts and other needs. After ten years, I decided the 9-5 was not for me. So after 10 years, I decided to leave that job and move home to pursue music. It has been a rollercoaster since then, and hopefully, music is here to stay.
Please tell us about your music brand DkMTkM.
My motto is to listen different. I feel as if we have one small group of people control what music gets put on display. Today’s music is the same over and over and, to me, very stale. So I create an under-produced sound where I want those few errors left in. It’s raw and a rough sound. With that, I like to tell a story. I am a writer, so I am always telling a story. Every song is done from my heart, so I hope the listeners feel it. My music is not for all. A lot of people want to hear a more polished sound, and that is ok. Mine is not mainstream; it’s different and does not follow your normal arrangements. On the other side, since I am different, my fans are very loyal and really into what I’m doing. I will never get big or have a hit, and I’m ok with it. I just want to make a living and make some friends that like my music along the way.
I release all singles, as in today’s world, I feel albums are dead. I remember buying a whole CD for 1 song I liked, and now it’s all listened to.
