BGC MELODY – Africa’s Rising EDM Fusion Label
BGC MELODY is a group of musicians and producers led by Don Julio Bats, operating under an independent international record label of the same name. BGC Melody is currently comprised of artists Bah’Ndong, Cindy Mbando, Mobe Molondo, and Thisis Mokom. The brand also includes former artists of the record label – Elie Solo, LaLa, Deenah, Jayé, Pope Switzeal, Yaria Neemah, and Ziiana.
In addition to this core group, BGC Melody also operates as an open production house that invites independent artists, friends of the label, and artists signed with other entities, to collaborate in musical production under its brand name.
In the fall of 2022, BGC Melody’s ensemble of artists joined their voices together with guest artists to produce what has been described as the greatest football (soccer) anthem ever done for a national team: WHEN LIONS ROAR. The track was a tribute to the Indomitable Lions – Cameroon’s national team – and to all the African soccer teams which had qualified to represent Africa at the Qatar FIFA World Cup 2022.
BGC Melody released COOKIE CRUMBLES in March, 2023, the first song of an upcoming soundtrack album for a new movie, produced by the label’s movie production unit – BGC Melody Story. Recently, on July 1st, BGC Melody released another Amapiano/Afrobeats EDM Fusion track, “WETIN CONCERN WE,” featuring its veteran artist Bah’Ndong and the youngest in the label, Thisis Mokom.
We had the pleasure of interviewing Don Julio Bats, Founder of BGC Melody, the record label and leader of BGC Melody, the music group. Here are excerpts from the Interview:
Hi, Great to have you with us today! Please tell us about your journey.
Hi, born and raised in Cameroon, developed an interest in music during my youthful days as a student in Cameroon, but besides being a member of several bands in high school and earlier university years, I never really produced music until after the creation of my record label BGC Melody a couple of years ago in the United States. My main goal is to detect budding African Urban Music talents, mentor them and promote their craft worldwide.
Please tell us about your songs.
We recently released a marvelous dance tune titled “WETIN CONCERN WE,” following our successful release of our “COOKIE CRUMBLES” EP a couple of months ago. The song has consolidated our label among the major EDM Fusion producers, the group bridging the gap between Afro Urban Sounds like Amapiano and Afrobeats and Western House Music.
What are the strategies that helped you become successful in your journey?
Fearlessly working with new and unknown talents who are working hard to learn their craft and make a name for themselves, and the readiness to take risks in the domain of sound fusion experimentation. We shamelessly take traditional African beats and work with our producers to fuse them with modern Western beats to produce unique electronic dance music for the modern soul. We refuse to be like others. Every song produced by BGC Melody has something unique.
