Today, we are interviewing Ejovi Obus, popularly known as Jovi Obus, a Musician (Gospel Artist), Youth Leader, and Entrepreneur.
Please tell us something about yourself.
I’m a Nigerian. Born and raised in Warri, Delta State, Nigeria. Husband to Marquita Logan-Obus and father to Oghoghome Mika and Ogheneruona Mercy Ejovi-Obus. I’m a Christian, believer of Jesus Christ and the Trinity. I’m on a mission to let the whole world know God and His Mighty power through music, fashion, and community service.
How did you get into what you do right now? Please tell us more about your journey?
I do what I do right now after I found out it was a call of God upon my life and a covenant of service to God through my mother. My journey has not been the easy one. I’m learning new things every day about me and my calling. I’ve been hurt and betrayed by many. But in all, I’ve come to an understanding that it builds me for the place God is taking me to. I’m currently working on a project, and by God’s grace, it’s going to be out soon.
Who are your role models?
I see these people as my role models in the industry and ministry; Sonnie Badu, Tye Tribett, Tim Godfrey, Dee Jones, JJ Hairston, and many more.
What inspires you?
I’m inspired by many things. My inspiration comes from my family, the Holy Spirit, my community, my culture as an African, and my life experiences, both good and bad.
Please tell us about your music.
My music…hmmm
I will say my genre of music is the Afro Christian Music. I’m a praise and worship leader, and my music roots from Africa mix with little western chops to it. I’m in the works to put out my first official music. I do live music, so a lot goes into producing my music. My music stirs the heart of people to their creator, God. It also creates vibes where people can get excited and release energy to praise God. I also do other kinds of music, but that will be for another discussion.
What’s your most memorable experience?
My most memorable experience was the day I proposed marriage to my wife. It was the day my life changed forever. The day I decided to be a man. Since I made that decision, I’ve never wished otherwise.
Which social media channels work best for promoting your work?
I will say Instagram and youtube are best for me because I’ve watched closely and found out that my content is viewed more in those two outlets.
What’s your greatest fear?
My greatest fear is doing all these and not able to make it to heaven in the end. It humbles me and makes me want to serve more.
Looking back, what’s one thing you wish you understood better before you ever got started?
I will say it’s the music business. I’ve seen people being taken advantage of first hand just because they don’t know about the business part of their music. I’ve told myself I will make sure I equip myself with the music business knowledge, so I don’t fall victim as well.
What are the strategies that helped you become successful in your journey?
Yielding to the Holy Spirit, Serving, Networking, Keeping things simple and not worrying about the things I cannot control
What keeps you going when things get tough?
When things get tough, I fall on my face and worship. It’s therapy for me.
