Shakira Isabel Mebarak Ripoll has Lebanese roots. Her name is derived from Shakir, which means grateful in Arabic. She has two children. Shakira was involved with Antonio de la Rúa, a lawyer, and is currently in a relationship with football player Gerard Piqué.

Professional Life

Shakira signed up with Sony Music Colombia when she was just 13. Her first album was Magia in 1991, followed by Peligro in 1993, which were not commercially successful. However, the third and fourth albums, Pies Descalzos from 1995 and Dónde Están Los Ladrones? from 1998, helped her become very popular in Latin America. In 2001, she released Laundry Service, which became a huge seller worldwide, with over 13 million copies sold.
