A rendezvous with Podcaster, Humanitarian and Professor – Christine Reidhead

Today, we are interviewing Christine Reidhead, a Business professor at Navajo Technical University. She loves her job, and the people. She is also involved with podcasting, writing books, and running a nonprofit organization called AfrikRising.

1. Please tell us something about yourself.

I’m a driven individual who certainly wants to help create positive change. I am from Benson, Arizona, which is a small town in southern Arizona. I grew up loving and playing sports my whole life. As you grow up, sports slowly become unimportant in the big scheme of things, and so my drive turned to my career. I always love to challenge myself with new things.

2. Who are your role models?

I’ve had so many role models throughout my life. I grew up idolizing Michael Jordan as he was an icon throughout his basketball career. He had an extreme work ethic and was very driven. As you mature, different things become more important to you. My stepfather, Leland Barney, instilled in me the importance of work, but not just work, but hard work. I hated and despised the relentless hard work he put me through every day at the time. But as I grow older, I see the development of hard work in me, more and more. I get a high from all the work I’m involved in, and I absolutely love it.

3. What inspires you?

Not what, but who inspire me – my two young sons. Teaching them the importance of working hard and rising up. I have this inner drive to become better every single day. And, I hope to instill that motivation and drive in them, as well.

4. Please tell us about your organization.

We started a nonprofit about a year ago to address hunger in Africa. AfrikRising really has laid the foundation to create change. I also released my first book in December 2019, which made it to the best sellers list. I currently have several new podcasts in the works. The latest is the Tom Davis Leadership Podcast with the legendary Tom Davis.

5. What’s your most memorable experience?

Just learning and growing – life is a constant change and rolling with whatever life brings.

6. Which social media channels work best for promoting your work? What exactly do you do on the social media channel that makes it work for you?

Facebook and YouTube are my go-to social media channels. I feel those are the two most popular right now. We just focus on telling our story, and when we do projects, provide videos to help take people there even though the event might be across the world. We have an excellent team with AfrikRising.

7. What’s your greatest fear?

I just want my boys to be good people. To raise beautiful families, be kind, and give back to their communities. Kindness goes a long way, no matter what you’re doing. Giving back is something I’m very passionate about.

8. Looking back, what’s one thing you wish you understood better before you ever got started?

How difficult it is to run a nonprofit. There is so much involved and really takes a lot of your time. But when you step back and look at the big picture, it’s all worth it in the end.

9. What are the strategies that helped you become successful in your journey?

I’m very self-driven, I love my family and strive to improve myself daily. If I don’t have a huge obstacle in front of me, I get a little stir crazy. I find things to challenge me, set those goals, and really do everything in my power to accomplish them.

10. What keeps you going when things get tough?

Setting a good example for my boys.

11. Any message for our readers.

If there’s anything you want to do in life, just do it. Don’t let anything or anyone tell you you can’t do anything. If someone else can do it, why can’t you? Always strive for the best, no matter what.

12. How can people connect with you?

They can check out my website: www.afrikrising.orgwww.christinereidhead.com, or www.tipstostartingcollege.com.
