Author Frank Dixon shares how to prepare your child for real tough world of adulthood in his book ‘How parents can raise resilient children’.

Today, we have the pleasure of interviewing Frank Dixon, Author of the Best Parenting Books Series.

Hi, Great to have you with us today! Please tell us about yourself.

I was brought up in Newton, Massachusetts. I’ve moved around all throughout Boston, but I’m currently back in my hometown where I grew up. After I completed high school, I joined the Army National Guard. After serving for several years, I completed trade school for computer support. My daughter was born in 2011. Since then, I have been working and writing. I am also an Account Executive for a staffing agency. In my downtime, I enjoy spending time with my daughter, reading, writing, hiking, playing sports, swimming, and listening to comedy. For the most part, I’m a homebody; much of my family and friends live around me, so I’m quite content.

Please tell us more about your journey.

Growing up, I felt trapped. I experienced first-hand cheating, lying, secrets, and manipulation regularly as a child which had a lasting impact on me that was quite challenging to cope with. I felt entirely powerless as just a child standing in the face of injustice, always living under what felt like a double-edged sword of conditional love, and watching my family unravel. While my peers had fun and worry-free childhood, I had surrendered myself to shame, guilt, depression, and anxiety. Millions of adults never recover from their painful childhood and, as new parents, pass on their fears, insecurities, and problematic behaviors to their children. It’s a vicious cycle, and I refused to let my childhood define me and crush me. I made a point to channel negativity, pain, and suffering from my childhood experiences to illuminate a positive future for myself and others. Overcoming my rough upbringing was the hardest thing I had to do. However, it taught me a lesson. I became the person I am today, not despite my childhood, but because of my childhood. That’s why I decided to share my experience and knowledge with new parents who want to avoid the same mistakes, who want their kids to succeed in life, who want to build stronger, happier, healthier families to give their child the best chance to grow into successful and thriving adults in an increasingly tough and challenging adult world.

Please tell us more about your Best Parenting Books Series.

Understanding the pain points of my own childhood and upbringing was a solid foundation in terms of understanding the challenges, struggles, and pain points from both a child’s and parent’s perspectives. Building upon that foundation meant spending extensive time and research discovering more themes and topics that parents are experiencing in today’s modern-day age and how I can best help solve their problems through literature.

Being persistent, constantly seeking second, third, and even fourth opinions, and coming to a consensus through research about various concepts and ideas was instrumental to my success. Understanding that as parents, we have limited time, I designed the Best Parenting Books series bearing in mind I wanted readers to find my books easy to understand, digest, and quickly implement for a better parenting experience for raising children into successful and thriving adults in an ever-increasingly challenging and competitive world.

What are the strategies that helped you become successful in your journey?

There is no instruction manual that comes with a child. As parents, we have a choice to either figure it out as we go or to implement parenting strategies. Childhood is the most vital part of a person’s life and largely determines the outcome of a person’s future and the remainder of their adult life. We want to do everything possible to ensure our children are set up for success. The last thing any parent wants is to live with regret knowing they could have done more for their child. You’re on a journey to becoming a more successful parent. Part of that is exploring different paths to find which approach best resonates with you— or to choose the perfect combination for you and your child.
