She has been writing poetry since she was a kid!! ‘Morning Coffee: Love is a simple theme’ is Lachandra Jordan’s first poetry book.

Today, we have the pleasure of interviewing Lachandra Jordan, Author of Morning Coffee: Love is a simple theme, a series that explores the more questionable aspects of life and love through prose and poem.

Hi, Great to have you with us today! Please introduce yourself and tell us about what it is that you do.

I recently graduated with my M.S in nonprofit management and leadership. I previously graduated with my B.A. in political science from the University of Akron back in 2016.

Lachandra-Jordan

Please tell us more about your journey.

I have been writing since I was a kid, specifically poetry. This is my first book of poetry that I have published, so it is kind of like my firstborn, lol.

Please tell us about your book, Morning Coffee: Love is a simple theme.

My book is about love and life seen through prose and poem. The back cover description of my book is as follows; How we see the world shapes how we react to it. We often forget to allow ourselves the space to step outside of our own skin and our own experiences in order to see the world through a slightly less narrow lens. The privilege of navigating life in the passenger seat can be scary and exhilarating at the same time, and I hope this book of poems gives the reader a little more courage to take that first step into the unknown. Give me your hand and escape into the wild with me.

What are the strategies that helped you become successful in your journey?

I am still trying to become successful in my writing journey, lol. But as far as life in general, I would say my determination to win. I have always been driven to have certain accomplishments in my life, and that hasn’t changed.

Any message for our readers.

I would love to hear what people think and, most importantly, how my poems made them feel. The one question I hate, well, hate is a strong word but dislike the most when people ask about my writing, specifically, my poetry is what does this poem mean or what made you write it or where did it come from. And the reason is because my style of writing poetry is very outdated compared to what is popular in poetry right now and one big reason for that is because I write with a lot of metaphors, and there is a reason for that. I don’t want you to associate my poems with me. My poetry is about whatever it is about at the core, and above that, it is about the reader. Poetry should reflect the person who is reading it because the message is filtering through that person, the reader, and I don’t want to take that away from anyone by interjecting my perception of the poems with why I wrote the poem. Art is meant for interpretation. Let’s keep it that way.

Fantastic! So tell us, how can people find out more about you?
