Author Rowdy Rooksy talks about her latest book ‘Dare: A Bradford Academy Novel’

Today, we have the pleasure of interviewing Rowdy Rooksy, an author and podcaster.

Tell me one interesting thing about yourself.

I’m a total Trekkie. I love all things Star Trek and I had the biggest crush on Captain John Luc Picard from Star Trek The Next Generation.

How did you get into writing? How has your journey been?

I started writing in junior high. We read the poem Death Be Not Proud and were giving an assignment to write a poem in a similar style. I’ve been writing ever since. The journey’s been a long one, full of peaks and valleys.

Who are your role models/favorite authors?

Hands down my favorite authors are Gena Showalter, Brenda Jackson, and J.R. Ward.

What inspires you?

The ocean inspires me. Being in the wild inspires me. Creativity inspires me. There’s just something calming about the ocean, and there’s a level of beauty in nature that defies description. I love all forms of creative expression – writing, music, film.

Describe your book.

Think Gossip Girl meets Mean Girls set in the rugged hills of Texas Wine Country. After the death of her mother, a midwestern girl is thrust into the treacherous world of the uber-wealthy and elite. A world where cliques, hierarchies, and family legacy means everything and an invitation to a secret dinner party ends in murder.

What’s your most memorable experience?

The day I got the physical proof copy of my book in the mail. It was the most exciting thing.

Which social media channels work best for promoting your work? What exactly do you do on the social media channel that makes it work for you?

Instagram, good reads, book blogs – they work because they cater to my target audience – other authors, creatives, and young adults.

What’s your greatest fear?

Living empty and dying full, aka dying without having done all the things in life I wanted to do. Write books, travel the world and etc.

Looking back, what’s one thing you wish you understood better before you ever got started?

How to go about marketing books as an indie author.

What are the strategies that helped you become successful in your journey?

Doing it my way. Not adapting to fit into the norm or status quo.

What keeps you going when things get tough?

Meditation, yoga, stillness
