Today, we are interviewing Jillian Edwards Coburn, who is originally from Lafayette, Louisiana. She is an entrepreneur, inventor, outdoorswoman, and mother of three who is passionately committed to supporting and elevating women who have nowhere to turn and living under the shadows of domestic violence.
Jillian Edwards Coburn is also the co-owner of NOLA Prestige Electric, a women/minority-based contracting company. Her soon to be released product, MOMMYGO-BAG was invented for families with kids and who have animals. She has also founded the apparel line, Reel Housewives of the Deep South, in 2014, producing one-of-a-kind American-made designs for Southern women who love the outdoors and choose “catfishing over catfighting!”
She spends her time on the lake or at home creating new books, one of her new book is, “Spicy, Cajun, with Love! For Southern Louisiana Food, Quick and Easy Recipes written by spicy cajun south of I-10”. She loves to travel and spending time with family. She lives and works in Lago Vista, Texas, with her husband and three children
1. How did you get into what you do right now? Please tell us more about your journey?
A survivor myself, I assist women living with abuse by empowering and teaching them how to get out, heal, and build a life they’ve always imagined.
2. Who are your role models?
Vanessa Coppes, Oprah Winfrey, Mel Robbins, Mary Magdalene, and my kids!
3. What inspires you?
Seeing other women and men turn their mindsets to survivor mode versus victim mode. Cooking and seeing my friends enjoy the meal while we drink and eat. Sitting on the lake and being one with the earth.
4. Please tell us about your company.
I have several companies as I am an entrepreneur. MommyGo-Bag merges military-inspired, functional, and fashionable, “Go Bag’s with tactical Field kits to help parents have control over life’s situations. Barf…Poo…Pee.. we got you covered” I have been working on this project now for two years, and we are finally in the production stage and will be launching in the Spring.
“My Ugly Truth Life Beyond Abuse,” is a memoir and step by step guide to get you out of a domestic violence relationship. My next book is lighter than the first. I love to hunt, and fish and I was tired of everyone asking me to send my recipes, so I decided to create a cookbook, Spicy, Cajun, with Love! For Southern Louisiana Food, Quick and Easy Recipes written by spicy cajun south of I-10”..let my readers have a lighter feel than the heavy topic I spoke about last year. I will continue to speak around the world, inspiring others of my story to speak out against abuse but focusing on the cookbook and invention to roll out this year.
5. What’s your most memorable experience?
Speaking at a conference in New Jersey and actually telling my story and having normal women come up to me and hug me for sharing my story. Also, making my first twenty dollars, which I have framed.
6. Which social media channels work best for promoting your work? What exactly do you do on the social media channel that makes it work for you?
Facebook and Instagram work well as I use an algorithm that was taught by Aprielle Franks to make my life easier for content posting. I really think going live and me cooking with my six years old has been a hit, and my viewers love it.
7. What’s your greatest fear?
My greatest fear is losing my faith, and the women I work with go back into a relationship they need to get out of. And me spending a lot of time training them to rewire their brain as I understand how challenging it is to deal with Complex Trauma. Or one of my children getting abused. I am not sure what I would do! I would be an outraged parent that is for sure.
8. Looking back, what’s one thing you wish you understood better before you ever got started?
Trust your gut! Not everyone has your best interest. None of your opinions are my business. Not to take life so seriously and to live in ten-second intervals. Choosing what is light for me, and knowing if it is heavy, there is a lie attached somewhere to it.
9. What are the strategies that helped you become successful in your journey?
Having an accountability coach and making sure I surrounded myself with women that were rooting for me. Really believing in myself and doing what I love!
10. What keeps you going when things get tough?
I pray a lot and spend a lot of time in Adoration.
11. Any message for our readers
Do what you love and know you have a choice. For everything that may seem super cool to you, I suggest getting a notebook and writing down all your ideas. You never know what may be the next cool inventions. All your ideas are things wanting to be created. Trust your knowing, and if you really work on something, you will be successful. Always end your day with gratitude and start it with positive affirmations.
