Today, we are interviewing Dorsey Ross, a minister, author and motivational speaker. He encourages and inspires people to do their best in life.
Please tell us something about yourself.
I am forty-three years old, and I was born with a congenital birth defect called Apert Syndrome, a birth defect of the hands and the face. My parents were told that I would be brain dead at birth and to put me into an institution. Thankfully my parents decided to go against doctors’ advice to sign the papers and take me home. Throughout my life, I have had to go through sixty-eight operations. Still, my faith in God has kept me from giving up on my life and believing that He has a greater plan and purpose for my life.
How did you get into what you do right now? Please tell us more about your journey.
Growing up, I enjoyed going to the youth group and speaking encouragement into young people. After coming out of Bible college, no one would hire me, so I decided to give my story on video. God opened the doors for me to travel and speak all across the country, sharing my story of what He has done in my life.
Who are your role models?
My parents, my friends who have stood by me from day one, never gave up on me and have always encouraged me to keep pursuing the dreams that I wanted to accomplish in my life. To also keep doing what it was that God had for me.
What inspires you?
To be able to encourage other people to share my story of faith and hope and what I have been through in my life.
Please tell us about your book.
My book Overcomer will be coming out on October 22nd, 2020, it is going to be my autobiography. I will be sharing more in-depth about what I have had to face growing up. What obstacles and difficulties that I have to overcome in my life, and how through it all God has helped me to do that. It will be available as an ebook and also as a print book on Amazon.
What’s your most memorable experience?
My most memorable experience has to be when I went out to California to speak at the Capital Christian Center. I was able to be a part of their prom for people with disabilities, seeing them so happy, and being a part of something that they may not have been able to do otherwise.
Which social media channels work best for promoting your work? What exactly do you do on the social media channel that makes it work for you?
I like Instagram, and I also have a Facebook ministry page, which promotes the ministry that I do. I also have a Facebook author page, which I am using to promote the book that I have coming out. I use Instagram to encourage people and inspire people and just let them know what I am doing. There are people out there that probably think Dorsey isn’t capable of doing certain things, and I post and share about it to prove them wrong.
What’s your greatest fear?
I would say that my greatest fear is regret, telling yourself that you’re going to do something, and in the end, not doing it because of fear.
Looking back, what’s one thing you wish you understood better before you ever got started?
I wish I understood how ministry worked, and how to get speaking engagements easier.
What are the strategies that helped you become successful in your journey?
It was to trust in God, and knowing and believing in Him, He had everything planned out ahead of time. I didn’t always understand or even believe that, but that’s what I feel now, and that’s what I think is helping me to become successful.
What keeps you going when things get tough?
It would have to be my faith in God, and also my friends and family who are there with me daily.
