SEO Strategist from Malaysia shares the secret – Try providing value to your target market

Today, we are interviewing Terence Lim from Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. Being in the digital marketing industry for 11 years, he is now a Freelance Search Engine Optimization Strategist. He is also a PUMA Spokesperson and a distance runner.

1. How did you get into what you do right now? Please tell us more about your journey?

After working in a local skincare retailer for a year, I ventured into inbound marketing. I invested in a lot of domains and did a lot of SEO experiments to see which tactics work best. The biggest lesson I have learned is that instead of forcing a large audience to see your advertisement, try providing values to your target market.

2. Who are your role models?

Neil Patel and Brian Dean are top of the list. They are industry leaders and always share valuable content to the audience.

3. What inspires you?

Do something. You can have the perfect plan, but it’s nothing if you do not execute it. Taking the first step is always the hardest, but it is what keeps things moving.

4. Please tell us about your company.

I value a flexible working environment as much as talents. I firmly believe that the most successful companies are built upon efficiency and respect. I founded JinMatic, a digital marketing agency, to help the local small-medium enterprises achieve marketing goals. My main service is SEO and website audits. I think the local businesses deserve to succeed just like multi-billion dollar companies.

5. What’s your most memorable experience?

I collaborated with one of the largest hospital in Malaysia. Even though it was a 3-month contract, but I helped them to achieve goals by ranking all the targeted keywords on top of the Google search engine.

6. Which social media channels work best for promoting your work? What exactly do you do on the social media channel that makes it work for you?

LinkedIn works best for promoting my work and skill. I often share my thoughts about the latest trend and proven strategy in regards to internet marketing. “Licenses & Certifications” is also a feature that allows you to post your work certificates.

7. What’s your greatest fear?

Having no time for my family. I spent almost 16 hours a day working on my clients’ projects. As I’m now in the middle-age stage, I think my family deserves the attention as much as my clients do.

8. Looking back, what’s one thing you wish you understood better before you ever got started?

Be vulnerable. No one is perfect and don’t claim to be the best, even in your industry. Value talents because they’re the ones who keep your business going.

9. What are the strategies that helped you become successful in your journey?

You can test one thousand things in SEO, but without measurement, everything is meaningless. My SEO strategy became much more effective after learning analytical tools like Google Analytics and Search Console. Having said that, not all data is useful for your business. The types of data you need are dependant on your business objectives.

10. What keeps you going when things get tough?

Discipline. Don’t rely on motivation as it comes and goes. Discipline keeps me going when things get tough.

11. Any message for our readers.

Take action now, even if it’s a small one. There is a Chinese proverb, “The best time to plant a tree was 20 years ago. The 2nd best time is now”.

12. How can people connect with you?

People can visit my digital marketing agency website https://jinmatic.com, Facebook and LinkedIn.
