Early life before fame

Sarah grew up as the youngest of four daughters. She grew up in the Riverside neighborhood of Greenwich, Connecticut. Sarah has said that her mother, Mary Lee Rafferty, who is the Chairwoman of the English Department at Convent of the Sacred Heart School, as well as her father, Michael Griffin Rafferty Junior, who is a successful oil painter and has had a career in finances, have helped Sarah truly cultivate her passion for various arts. Sarah has three sisters, Constance, Ann, and Maura.

Sarah Rafferty studied at the Philips Academy in Andover, Massachusetts, which she graduated from in 1989. She then went on the major in English and Theatre at the prestigious Hamilton College. After that, she studied theatre abroad in the United Kingdom at the University of Oxford during her junior year. After graduating from magna cum laude from Hamilton in 1993, she went on to study at the Yale School of Drama, where she received her Master of Fine Arts degree.

Personal Life

Sarah is a happily married wife to her husband Aleksanteri Olli-Pekka Seppälä, an American of Finnish descent. He has been a stock research analyst at the asset management unit of Lazard Frères & Company since 2004. The two married on June 23, 2001, at the esteemed Roman Catholic church of St. Mary, located in Greenwich, Connecticut. The pair has two daughters together, Iris Friday and Oona Gray.

Sarah, alongside her Suits co-star Gabriel Macht has been good friends for over 27 years. They initially met at the 1993 Williamstown Theatre Festival. Sarah was one of the guests at Meghan Markle’s wedding to Prince Harry at St. George’s Chapel, Windsor Castle, on May 19, 2018.

Professional Life

She had appeared in several movies throughout the years, making her initial debut on the big screen in 2000 when she appeared as Amy in Mambo Café. Her next role came in 2002 when she played a Nurse in Speakeasy. This was followed by her 2004 appearance in Soccer Dog: European Cup as Cora Stone.
2006 saw the actress playing Sydney in Falling for Grace, for which she received critical acclaim.
In 2009 she appeared in Four Single Fathers as Julia, and her most recent role on the big screen was in 2011 when she played Emily in Small, Beautifully Moving Parts.

She has appeared in the popular legal drama TV series, Suits. Other cast members seen in Suits include Gabriel Macht, Patrick J. Adams, Rick Hoffman, Gina Torres, Meghan Markle, Amanda Schull, Wendell Pierce, Dulé Hill, Katherine Heigl, David Costabile and DB Woodside.
